I purchased a Sub 37 a while back and wanted share the joy of using it. I’ve got a band comprised of a drummer who uses all indigenous drums and Congas, a violinist, a native american flute player, a guitarist (acoustic and electric) and I play bass with the Sub. We are an aspiring band that wants to do weekly community music projects for the public where the people who come to listen also participate with chant and various drums and such- we have a ways to go before we are very good but we are getting there. The kind of music we are playing is like a cross between The Grateful Dead and Fela Kuti (improvisational jams with extended rhythmic pieces long enough to get into trance with)— although the songs we play will be all original with some old folk and hymn mixed in. We are the band for a meditation center in the city where I live.
I was torn on weather to get the Sub 37 or an old Rhodes bass piano-- ended up basically getting both and liked the way the Sub 37 fit in the mix better-- so its all I have now. It sounds so good with acoustic instruments!! The Sub 37 is a REAL instrument. It is so versatile and I’ve already created four or five bass sounds for my style of bass playing. I also love to come out of jams into live mixing drone bass for the really weird parts of our music.
I think the Sub 37 is an incredible instrument and just wanted to share my enthusiasm for it with you all.
