Just bought a Prodigy, which seems to be in good condition apart from two things - a bit of crackling on the resonance knob, and some funny behaviour on the pitch bend wheel.
Firstly, there is some crackling when moving the wheel, which is particularly noticeable when in Osc sync mode. No biggie. When using it to bend the pitch though, the range seems wrong. Moving the wheel to the top, it bends the pitch a major 6th. (ie C to A). In the other direction it bends the pitch down somewhere between a major 6th and a minor 6th.
Any ideas if this a common fault, and an easy one to fix? I assume it should bend an octave in both directions?
Alternatively, is anyone able to recommend an internet forum where I might be able to get some help with this?
Many thanks
Tom
Hi there and welcome.
The Prodigy Owners Manual states that the pitch bend wheel range is greater than +/- perfect fifth and that’s all. The maximum range is not adjustable, and not very precise and varies from one Prodigy to another depending on electronic components tolerances.
As for crackling of the resonance knob and the wheel, both potentiometers are probably simply dirty inside. A good cleaning of those by a qualified tech will solve this.
Oh, and another forum where you can get help on this is probably Gearslutz.com. But before you create another thread on there too, it might be a good idea to do a search of the forum for similar problems, you’ll be amazed at the number of people who have exactly the same issues with their vintage analog synth. (probably the reason why it took a little while to get a response here to give you time to do your homework
)
