Pissed as heck key already bad so I took it apart

I’ve played this board probably 20 times max. It was new from the big box dealer.

The G4 key is bad and since this site sucks, I can’t post photos if you want to see what these really poor contacts look like go over to Yamaha musician’s forum and I’ll probably post a YouTube.

Moog better give me a brand new board these things are expensive. Or a new contact board but I’m worried these are so cheap and fragile they will never last. They need to recall these contact mechanisms. This is NOT a pro level board.

When you go to an unaffiliated forum they allow you to share the photos.

I thought once I took it apart I’d find an obvious issue however nothing. I’ve repaired boards for 20 years so I found nothing unless it’s an electrical diode, I might need a new contact board. So I flipped the rubber contact strip around and all 12 notes went out. Flipped it back and just the one. So not sure what that means.

Sounds like they are shipping out a replacement unit from the dealer so that’s good. I recommend you pay close attention and test all your keys from time to time and perhaps buy the extended warranty.

I suspect to keep prices low they got a bit risky on quality so although Moog might not issue an official recall they might be happy to replace any faulty units realizing some have issues. That’s my thought.

Hey Davlippo7.

Sorry to read this misadventure.
I don’t have a Muse, I haven’t been looking for many feedback but I know tha the Muse features a Fatar TP/9S keybed, which is not known for being a low quality one. I guess some problems sometimes go through the quality control, or maybe it’s just bad luck.
Anyway I hope you will get it 100% working! Have you contacted Moog? Any chance the warranty covers that?

Yes the dealer is shipping a new unit to me so that’s good to see. I wonder if this is common or not but I hope not.

So odd only one key stopped working without a sign. I mean I’ve seen ancient boards still have keys that work. That concerns me because all these were made the same way. Time will tell if others have keys that go out.

I guess every model of every brand has (more or less) failures.

Glad you get another board
