Phatty Stage II - connect to macbook pro?

hi there,

i just got most amazing instrument ever, phatty stage ii !!! now i would like to record the sounds onto my computer. i have logic and ableton softwares, how can i record it? what cables do i need? audio interface or midi interface as well?

many thanks for your help!

cheers,
sylwia

The Little Phatty has midi-over-USB, but not USB sound (it’s not a sound card). Recording requires you to use the audio output jack into a USB mixer if you want digital recording, or into any analog recording equipment. That includes desktops, laptops, netbooks. I don’t know about macbooks but I suppose they have analog input, do they?

ok!! thought so. i have a Firebox audio interface but i dont think its that great? will it affect the sound from my phatty now? will it sound different to how it sounds on the headphones? :frowning:

No and no. Or very very slightly if your audio card is absolute trash, but I don’t believe it is nowhere that bad.

The Firebox is fine. Plug the Phatty in, set your levels, and you should be good to go.

ok cool, you guys are great. i never connected a synth though so not sure what cables i need - i assume it’s midi cables? from midi out (phatty) to midi s/dpif in firebox? (photo below)

ok so i plugged the audio in into one of the channels on firebox - is that correct? but the signal doesnt get through when i create a new audio channel in the software… help?

sylwia, napisz prosze, what kind of software do you use?

This thread is the biggest case of RTFM I have ever seen, lol

And that stands for ? Whatever the case, is only a typical mild one : newbie comes in, ask a legitimate question, get answered, answers back, then something looks fishy (or smells rather). No big deal.

lol what smells fishy?

as for the RFTM i read the manual but i think the problem is with my interface… nevermind. no need to be nasty.

i am using ableton/logic - either is fine.

So is it recording now?

yes it was one step in the software setup that i missed

Great!
