Hi, i’m new the MoogerFooger family and need some advice on a good (general) Van Halen setting, ie Eruption for example. By the way this is by far the best Phaser i have ever used and plan on buying the Delay version asap. Thanks in advance.[/quote]
i dont know if its quite van halen-ish but this one of my favorite settings:
Use the AUX OUT instead of the regular Audio out, AMOUNT= between Stun and Kill, SWEEP=10, SWITCHES=LO/12stage, RATE=Between 9:00 and 10:00, RESONANCE=0
This makes a great static-y filter sweep that roars with a ton of distortion before it.
I’d have to check to be sure, but I’m fairly certain that EVH used an MXR Phase 90 pedal on ‘Eruption’.
The Phase 90 is a four-stage phaser with just a Speed control. It produces a lush, organic kind of swirly sound. I don’t know how accurately the 'Fooger Phaser can duplicate this effect, but you might get close by setting the Phaser switch to 6-stage and no Resonance. Place the Sweep control somewhere in the middle to start (maybe 4 or 5 on the dial). Set the LFO Amount control to 5, set the switch to LO, and adjust the Rate to taste. Basically, the sound you’re going after is smooth and liquid (not gimicky) so tweak for a rich, lush effect.
