Percussion

Hi all!

New MiniMoog Voyager user here. I bought the VX-351 and CP-251 along with my Voyager Performer. I have been surfing through these forums for about a year now and finally took the plunge and bought a Moog. Why did I wait so long?!

Anyhow, I have been experimenting with different interface methods. I am interested in buying a ribbon controller or possibly making one myself. But, what I am most interested in is using replicating the good old Drum Controller that Moog used to make. When I say replicating, I am not looking to build the exact same thing. Rather, I am looking to replicate the performance aspect. I would prefer to do something with CV/Gate control but would be OK in using midi to start. I figure that I can always use a MIDI to CV convertor later on.

What I am looking to replicate is the velocity to pitch peformance control of the original. I am thinking that it must be possible to use a midi drum controller (I have many of them) and somehow assign veolicity to pitch. That way, the harder I hit the pad, the higher the pitch. I figure that I could use expression pedals in place of the original dials/knobs that were on the original controller.

Is this possible/practical or am I better off doing this another way?

Also, are there any other interfaces that people might be using to play their Voyager? I am especially interested in ways to play patches using percussion type interfaces.

Thanks,
Michael.
