Patch panel ok for CV?

This is likely been discussed prior but I was wondering if it was OK to use a patch panel for Control Voltage.

In this case, it’s a Samson S-Patch plus, which is passive. Any concerns about cross talk if Audio is close by (adjacent to it?)

What about distance on cable for CV. Obviously, a Pedal has a few feet and there is no problem there but it is not terribly important that it is calibrated perfectly. If I have a 3’ cable from a Voyager or Fooger to the patch panel, then patch from there to another 3-4 or 6 feet, any issues with voltage drop?

Thanks

Hey Mike

Did you see my thread in the other section?

There isn’t any problem with routing to a patchbay. In some cases you must make sure you normal the connection that you break.

DC can crosstalk; I’ve used two separate patchbays in my system to potentially avoid this. But I think you will get most of your problems when the voltage/current was a lot higher e.g. in power cords. The current in CV is pretty low, so it shouldn’t hurt, and I remember people not having this problem in the past.

Distance shouldn’t be a problem (over a few feet). If the VX-351 connection can travel [however long it is] then a similar length should be fine.

Have fun!

Patchbays work great for CV. I have even used some as multiples and it worked great.

The thing most people here ask about here is the difference between using Tip Ring Sleeve (stereo) and Tip Sleeve (mono) cables. If you use TRS patchbays and cables, you can still power a pedal inputs. If you use TS cables, you short out the power output for the pedal.

If I want to use a pedal, I usually use the mult on my CP-251 and send it other places from there, so shorting it out never mattered to me. I use TS patchbays and cables.

Thanks for the info guys. One follow-up. Is the Multi on the 251 the same as the Multi on a VX-351? (is it just a passive 1 to 3 connection or is there some capacitors, possible a small amplifier?)

Thanks

The mult on the CP-251 is passive, 4 jacks connected in parallel. It does have 1 jack that has power for the pedal.
