Overdrive difference via mixer

Got my brand new voyager and of course was trying the feedback trick. Right out to External in. This sounds amazing.
Now for flexibility i want to do this via a mixer and not sacrifice the stereo sound. But somehow i can’t get the same great growling overdrive i get from the direct connection. Tried sending the stereo signal (MV L&R connected and send back to the external in) and also tried to replicate the right to external in connection (send the right channel to a seperate channel and route that back to the external in). In both case It overdrives only slightly before it starts screaming, but nowhere near the quality of the direct connections.

Anyone experience the same here? Can this be explained?

I’d like to know a way to do this without sacrificing stereo output as well. Headphone jack?

Yes. With the headphones jack it should work well and give you similar results. That is what was used on the original Minimoog D sometimes, instead of the “low” or “high” line output. Just keep the phones output level at about noon, and adjust the external input level to taste.

Thanks for the answer! I was hesitant about using the headphone output. Well, you know, because of the warnings about ruining stuff due to impedance mismatch- (after reading al lot it seems pretty safe actually when done right).
So i wonder:

  • what could explain the difference when sending the signal through a mixer, I’d still prefer this, so i can easily send other sources throught the voyager or mix them with the voyager feedback .
  • could i split (y cable) the right out to both the amp and external in and also split (y cable) the external input so i can mix the feedback loop with an external signal?
  • If i do feedback via the headphone output, what cable should i use. I can’t find a definate answer. A standard balanced (trs-trs/stereo-stereo) or unbalanced (mono/mono ts-ts) of trs-ts (and if so what should connect to what?) or a stereo to two mono y cable and leave one cable unconnected.

PS i am aware of the kick it up a notch. great tips, Next on my list.

I’ve read the headphone out jack should not be used. Why not just get an “A/B/Y” switch pedal. Right out into pedal , out a to mixer, out b to external in. And then you can Y them and have both (I think)

you could use the effects loop. just need a stereo to mono Y-cable. then run the loop out to the external in creating a loop before the filter.

I would like to ask is it really good direct connection with Stereo ?Is there another setting which will not affect our entire system? :slight_smile:

Thanks for your help. I rechecked my cabling and stupid me. I made a mistake. Instead of via the mixer, the MV was connected via my audio interface in & out and then into the mixer. And this AD/DA causes a slight latency whiched caused the totally different overdrive.
So right now it works great and flexible via the mixer. The monitor out goes into the external in and i can send any channel to that monitor channel as well as the MV itself.
