Hello Gang
I have a question about the Overload function on the Slim Phatty. When I am tracking M.I.D.I. info with the O.L. I seem to get a consistent buzzing sound when adjusting O.L.
Is this normal?
Thanks

sounds to me like you may be amplifying a ground loop. does it happen ONLY when you track MIDI in? MIDI from USB or DIN MIDI? DIN MIDI should have an optoisolator on any output, so ground loops aren’t SUPPOSED to be possible…USB has no such protection unless you’re using either a galvanic isolator… or a ferrite shunt cable (they’ve got that “lump” wrapped around the cable on one end) may help too, but less likely.
give me some details, and I’ll try and help you out, as to the very best of my knowledge that is NOT normal!
actually if you’re talking about a very faint “vvvp, vvvpt!” sort of sound as you move the OL pot or send MIDI CCs for Overload… that might be normal. The synth signal is at its very smallest amplitude when it goes through the filter, and so subtle noises occurring at this part of the circuit can be amplified along with the audio. if you are sending only 7-bit MIDI messages, then there are relatively large “steps” in the overload voltage, and many steps in quick succession can create a tone like you’re hearing.
If you are directly recording knob turning as MIDI, it might be a midi loop happening, also… this occurs if local control is on AND you are “echoing” the MIDI that is coming from the synth thru the sequencer and back to the synth. In this case the solution is to turn Local Control off, or don’t monitor (echo) MIDI while recording.
hope this helps!
