Does the Prophet 08 have built in reverb and delay?
If not, I’ll hold out for a possible MOOG Poly Synth.
I think built in reverb and delay are a must when you can save patches. Makes life so much easier when switching between them. On older synths where you couldn’t save anything, using external FX made sense, but in modern times, it’s nice to have it all in one.
That’s where I give Clavia Nord Wave/Nord Modular major props!
Still, I pray for a MOOG poly synth with built in FX
I hear ya Flash!
I too would like to see a Moog PolySynth but then I would probably want both too. I’m a big fan of Dave’s products and really want a P-08 (and a Linn Drum II Analog).
However a Moog PolySynth would be the thing!
No, it doesn’t.
From what I’ve heard, Dave Smith wanted to produce an instrument with a total analog signal path with a max price of $2000.
The Prophet sounds awesome without any effects, but I’ve been using my inexpensive Lexicon MX200 for delay and reverb and it sounds fantastic. I would love to have that Moog analog delay but it’s like $650 or something like that. Maybe someday.
I’m REALLY thinking about selling some old guitar gear and paying the difference for a Prophet 08. Then if MOOG comes out with a poly synth, I’ll buy that too.
You only live once. I’m not taking my money with me when I go. ![]()
I sold a guitar to buy a P’08. If Moog ever makes a poly, I’ll buy one - but I’m quite happy with them making simply the best monosynth. Moog’s one voice kills everyone else’s poly voices! Love my Voyager OS. ![]()
Yeah, so much for the innovative work of Thomas Oberheim, Dave Smith, Vogel&Ryrie, Mario Maggi, and the obscure people behind such CS80s or PS-3100s…
I guess you just can’t top our Lord Bob, can you?
If there is a Moog guitar, and if it has 6 VCO’s, perhaps this same voice engine will appear in a polysynth..
Can the Prophet 08 get the string sounds of an Oberheim OB-X ?
More specifically can it recreate the string sounds from this?:
You DO realize this is a Moog forum, right? ![]()
The P’08 has a two-pole filter (12dB/oct) that allows it to reproduce OB-like sounds. No idea if it can duplicate the strings from audio example you provided, but you should also keep on mind that that particular synth sound may have been sculpted by EQ and other sonic trickery (compressors, exciters, etc.) to get it to sound that way.
The P’08 is an amazing synth with very few shortcomings (I own one). I can’t say I was impressed with any of the string patches in the two factory banks, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be improved upon with a bit of tweaking (or perhaps better strings can be concocted from scratch).
If you can get a few minutes with one in a music store, please check it out. You will be impressed, even if you can’t get it to sound like an OB-X.
Yes! ![]()
I already have a Little Phatty. And if Moog had a polysynth, I would buy it first and foremost. But Moog doesn’t have a polysynth and that’s what I’m in the market for.
So, I’m very interested in the Prophet 08. It looks so SWEET!! ![]()
Or I was going to buy a vintage poly. Like an OB-X if I could find one.
Thanks for the info btw.
I had flight time with the OB-X and the P’08.
The P’08 will NOT sound like an OB-X. Not even with its 12dB filter, which is a weak sounding filter with almost no resonance.
Is there a better sounding polysynth on the market right now? Analog or digital?
I have also been looking at the Nord Modular and Nord Wave.
