Osc. 1 as the reference oscillator?

Hi, I’m a new Voyager owner and I have a problem with the tuning of the oscillator 1 wich is suppose to be “the reference oscillator”. I’m used to deal with synths that didn’t have that option to detune the osc. 1 (except with the "fine tune"obviously)

From a patch to another, there is a difference between the pitch of this oscillator and I’ve tryed for many hours to figure out what can be the cause of it.

It is a problem because I play in a band and whenever I switch the patch, we can hear my synth being detuned.

My question is: Is there a way to get the osc 1 to stay the same for all the patches (A=440)

Thank you,
Fred

Hi Fred, osc 1 doesnt have its own tuning control. Its only affected byt the global tuning knob. Are you letting the voyager warm up properly. It takes mine about 5 mins to settle completely. otherwise are you modulating osc1 using some sort of pitch mod or something?

Are you sure its not the other oscs that are detuned making the whole patch sound out?

Try muting all oscs apart from one, and stick a chromatic tuner on the output and see how out osc one is when you skip patches.

Otherwise its back to moog to re-calibrate.

Sorry cant be of more assistance.

Sure, what software version is in your Voyager?
You should check the pitch bend wheel offset (MASTER/Software Version/ENTER/CURSOR). Pitch bend wheel offset should be zero.
Are the pot mappings off?

Rudi

It’s the version 2.1 .

I put the pot mapping to the “off” position before posting this topic and the result is that the sounds that were in tune still are and the ones that were detuning (from the main tuning) are even worse. Osc. 1 of these use to be at + 6-7 cent. on my tuner… now it’s like +26-27 cent.

The pitch bend wheel is sometimes set to an incorrect position (like +1-+3) That could be the solution but I just don’t figure how I can calibrate that.

Is it possible?

Do you think it can be a problem with the OS I’m using?

Thank you guys for the help! I really enjoy being here!

Fred

I don’t know about your OS, but until I upgraded to 3.2 my tuning was off if I used the cursor up and downs to go to another patch or bank. I would be off pitch until I moved the pitch wheel. Then that patch would be fine, until I used the cursor buttons again. After I upgraded to 3.2 everything worked fine.

Alright, thank you Mark, I think that’s what I’ll do. I’m going to upgrade to version 3.2. But I’ll go see right now if it’s doing the same thing as yours use to when using the pitch wheel.

Can I go straight from version 2.1 to 3.2 or do I have to install all the other versions before?

Sorry, I’m a dummie… not use to deal with OS… evreything on my Source is so… mechanical and simple… I guess I’ll get through it.

Thank you for your help and your consideration,

Fred

I’m not sure about the sequence needed for upgrades. I think a call to Moog would be in order for that. I do know that you don’t need the upgrade board to go to 3.2.

O.K., so, always by keeping only the osc.1 on “on” position I went to the edit mode to the “pitch bend amount” Guess what?!?!? the more I go up on it, the more my osc.1 que detune (the original pitch goes up) on that patch.

By assigning the same pitch bend amount to all of my patches, I would fix the problem… in a stupid way, but still… I found the trouble.

I knew it wasn’t an hardware issue!

I will defenitly change my OS because this isn’t normal.

Thank you all for helping me out. …Spread the word.
