One as upgrade from Sub 37?

I have a Sub 37 and love it. I’m considering at some point getting a One. Can the One do everything the Sub 37 can do sound and feature wise? Is there a point in keeping the Sub 37 instead of trading it in for the One?

First of all, the Moog One does not sound like a Sub 37. The oscillators and the filters (2 on the One) are different.

Ok, can you elaborate more? I guessing the Sub 37’s oscillators are fatter since they don’t have to worry about getting too muddy with polyphony that the One does?

Hard to answer. The Sub37 is more direct, the filters seem to go a little further in all directions. IMHO, the Sub37 again is not as direct and “fast” as a Mini or a LittlePhatty, so it’s not the best unit to compare.
Things you can definitely trade in for the ONE are cheaper units like Mother32. It will be replaced at 100%. THe Sub37 just at 90%, to tell a number.

Ok, that makes sense. Its not just a question of features but sound. Monophonic (or duophonic) synths tend to have a more immediate or fatter sound since its only one or two notes where as the polys have to be a little thinner so that when you play chords they don’t sound too muddy.

I’m not so sure about this. If you have any possibilities to get close to an Oberheim OB-X, an OB-Xa or a Memorymoog wich is even fatter than OB’s, it will change your opinion.

The Memorymoog is so fat that it always needs to be EQ’d to sit in a mix. Just try a single Oscillator in Mono mode to program a bass sound, it kills any Minimoog you know. Prophet 5 are also very fat (vintage and new models). Countless bass lines have been made on P5.

Now, Moog One is a different beast. You can program it fat as f… but it will always sit in the mix.

Interesting. I’ll have to look closer at those.
