It’s not the find of the century but it’s a cool trick I had not come across before. A bit strange since the default settings for the mod busses are so close, but there’s an explanation.
Applying a strong CV or modulation to pitch gives you mighty effects but ‘un-musical’ results. One of the most common use for modulation of pitch is vibrato effects, and doing that, a little goes a long way. Too much and it’s not sounding good anymore. In making vibratos, the lfo’s triangle wave form is the one to use, the others are too pronounced. So it’s along those guidelines that I have been modulating pitch (after some initial wild experiments) for a while now.
Fascinated by the mod busses, I am trying to find some good use for those settings I have not used much over time, that’s when it came to mind coupling the S&H lfo waveform to the pitch (destination) on one mod bus, at maximum amplitude. Right on. That’s quite a span of pitch, and clear cut notes by the S&H gives a definite arp/sequencer feel. Notes (pitches) are random but quite musical and never boring. Right away, mod buss 2 is set to filter destination for live tweaking.
It sounds real good and it’s only the base set up. Envelopes control and multi-trigger mode add another level of texture. Next comes in a couple of exp’s, and a Midi-Murf with my favourite mids 4 pattern. I don’t think I am out of here until february, give it a try if you have a week to spare ![]()
