Hello, during rehearsal yesterday I had a problem with my LP Stage II
I’m using it with Ableton Live 8 - MIDI through USB and the audio out is connected to my MOTU 828 interface. I’m using it as an external instrument in Live and using some of Live’s effects such as the compressor and reverb for live processing. I send it a program change and a volume message in a clip to set it on the correct patch and volume for each song. I know there’s a lot of room for technical glitches, but this has worked perfectly for me for some time now, so I don’t think that’s the problem.
What happens is that the LP out of no where will be very quiet in volume and somewhat distorted. I checked and it sounds like that through it’s headphone jack too. Then also for no reason it will get very loud. Also after this happens it pretty much ignores MIDI input for switching patches and such. I had to turn it off and close Ableton and turn it all back on to get it working again. I did just move my studio to a different room in the house, but it is all hooked up the same; also my LP is in a better place (no windows). Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks!
Adam

Hi,
I have been having some trouble with Live 8 and the LP tribute, myself. I don’t know if this relates to your problem, but: Live seems to send out MIDI that I didn’t intend to the LP, such that sudden volume changes, arpeggiator modes, and other very weird behaviors occur (I cannot touch the resonance knob at all or Live has a fit).
Amos suggested turning local control off, but this didn’t solve the problem(s). The Ableton people had no idea what I was talking about.
A brand spanking new LIve document, with no recorded MIDI or audio clips, usually works better. I sometimes have to turn everything off (and walk away; it’s so frustrating). The pot mapping and MIDI CC functions of the LP are perhaps where I need to spend time to get more reliable performance.
I’m pretty sure the MIDI input from the LP is off on all channels, but I should make sure. I’m rehearsing again tonight so I’m going to watch it close. Turning the Local Off really wouldn’t work for my situation since I’m playing the LP live and Ableton is just switching presets and processing the audio for me. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. I never had any problems while making our album (using the external instrument plugin) or while rehearsing up to this point, so it makes me wonder if there’s a hardware issue with my LP.
