I am a complete newbie. I have a Sub 37 that I’m learning to use. I’m sending the signal from the Moog’s line out to an Apogee One interface’s line in. I was playing around without paying attention to the levels, and looked over and saw my levels were in the red and had been for about five minutes. My headphones didn’t really sound distorted, but the waveform was completely blown out. Have I damaged my equipment at all?
Whats a good rule-of-thumb setting for the output volume knob? Is there some resource for complete noobs with Moogs?
I seriously doubt you did any harm to your interface. Our band uses an m-audio pro-fire to record our writing sessions, and we redline the hell out of it. The only downside is the recording may clip or distort, or just completely blowout. As for the speakers, if they sound ok, they probably are …Speaker damage is usually the most obvious to your ears.
If you had been recording your session, the parts that peaked (redlined) would have likely sounded like poo.
