Newbie with his 1st Moog

Hello all. I’m excited about my 1st Moog! I own a Access Virus TI Polar Synth but to be honest I Like the sound of my Moog Voyager better! Now that I have cleared that up… Time for my Newbie question.

I have my Voyager connected midi to my Mac which is running Logic Pro 8. I know the Voyager is mono. But if I want to make a song using multiple patches and sounds I can only use one of my tracks with midi, right? Since the Voyager can only play one note and one patch at a time I have to do all my recordings in logic with Audio with the exception of 1 midi track.

Is this right? If not I would love to know how to do multiple midi tracks using the voyager!

The only way to hear your Voyager play multiple tracks is to record those tracks to separate audio channels. You can create multiple midi tracks but will not be able to play/hear them all at the same time.

For example the way I do it is to create a track on midi channel 1 along with an audio track. Then I record audio for midi channel 1. Then I make a track on midi channel 2 along with an audio track…and on an on. You need to mute each midi track as you record the next. This way I have editable midi data for all my tracks as well as the recorded audio.

rob909e you should prefer the moog to the Virus, altho the virus is a great synth the moog realy is in a class of its own - its a much better synth.

The moog however is not multitimbral,it cat play more than 1 sound at a time, even over midi -
its 1 sound,1 note at a time.,
to be honest i wouldnt want to use my moog for everything anyway,
however as Jon said you could record down to wav each line you want the moog to play and do it that way.
Otherwise,if you want a moog for 16 lines, channels of midi etc - then your gonna have to get 16 moogs :sunglasses:

Thanks for the help and the added screenshots! It’s is much appreciated!

Some people use the above method to produce chords as well. A little time consuming and I’ve never tried it myself.

how would one quantize audio since you can only have one midi channel playing at once. (logic Pro :sunglasses:

I’ve heard of anchor points but like I said I’m still new.

well sometimes quantising can litteraly wreck the piece/melody/bassline etc.
but often its needed,
ypou could record your part into a sequencer ,then edit it,quantise it etc untill its perfect then master it down as Audio
