newbie question about mod wheel / front panel

just got my voyager, and as i’m playing thru the presets, i notice something wierd.

if i play a preset like “lucky man” (a:112) without touching the front panel there is a tremendous amount of “vibrato” or oscillation, so much that it seems doubtful to me that they would program it this way.

when i adjust the mod wheel amount knob, just a bit, the vibrato goes away. like, for instance, on the lucky man patch, the level is set to 18… if i move it down to 12, it sounds fine. if i take it back to 18, it starts the real heavy tremolo again.

when i turn the amount down, now the mod wheel doesn’t seem to work to introduce the vibrato back in again.

what’s happening here?

My guess is that either the modulation depth is TOO much (so that you get such wild differences with minor changes) or that there is a malfunction somewhere in the mod wheel.

Maybe you need to get in touch with Moog.

Mine exhibits exactly the same behaviour on that patch. It might be part of Moog’s scheme of letting levels run from below to over what would be ‘normally’ musical or useful. My O-scope shows a vey slight mod amount at levels like 7 on that patch when the mod wheel is run up to the top. (Just tried it to see!)
