We just posted a new video to the Moog YouTube Channel.

It shows how to use an MF-101 and a Voyager (and more) for a new (old) way of creating tempo-synced modulations in a Dance Music setting.
Enjoy…

Awesome video! That’s the Voyager I want someday.
that’s a really useful video, dig it immensely!
I just posted some explanatory comments on the YouTube video’s page. Thought you all might find them useful as well…
"The Control Voltage that the ENV OUT produces basically follows the volume contour of the signal you’re processing through the MF-101.
In this example, we’re running the “House” drum track throught the MF-101. When the loud kick drum hits, the volume goes high and so does the ENV OUT CV. In between the kick drum hits, the volume drops and so does the CV.
The high-hat pattern adds some fluctuations to the volume that also become a component of the ENV OUT CV.
It’s a very responsive, analog method of creating tempo-synced effects. For best results, make sure your rhythm track has some fairly definite peaks and valleys and adjust the signal level for the widest dynamic range.
Since MIDI was not used in the creation of this example, it obviously also works on the Voyager Old School… or even a Model D.
There’s a lot of room for experimentation with this technique. Try it on a slower rhythm. It gives you more time to savor the rich modulation. The more resonance on your synth patch, the more apparent the modulation will be. Season to taste.
Suggestions:
Patch ENV OUT CV to the CUTOFF CV in on another MF-101. Us it to process a string synth pad.
Try with a live drummer!
Patch the ENV OUT CV into other Moogerfoogers.
Experiment with OFFSET on the CP-251 mixer."
Nice! How about a PX-353 for us Phatty users so we can do fun stuff like this as well?
You can already do this with the Little Phatty if you have an MF-101. Drums → MF-101. Env Out from MF-101 into Filter Cutoff CV In on Little Phatty.
Oh, yeah! For some reason I thought the Voyager’s CV outs were also being utilized for this patch.
Thanks Bryan T.
Bryan’s right. At the end of the video you can see me using this technique on the Voyager and LP simultaneously. I used the CP-251’s Mult to duplicate the ENV OUT CV.

We just uploaded a quick, new song to our MySpace page. www.myspace.com/moogmusicinc
The Song, “Code Two” is another example of this MF-101 technique. In it, the EGR OUT CV is routed to a Voyager, Little Phatty and to the Cutoff In of another MF-101 that is filtering a ROMpler.
Aha! The old side chain technique. Similar to vocoders and ducking when recording drums.
