Hello.
Before some hours i ordered my first moog synth, the slim phatty !!!
I am waiting for it impatient and i am sure it will be a great addition to my DSI Tetra.
I also have a Kurzweil K2661 and a Creamware B4000.
I am very happy that i will be a moog owner !!!
Thatās an excellent group of instruments you mention. I think youāll find that the distinctive sound of the Moog adds an excellent balance to your mix. In addition to all the great new tones from the Phatty itself, I suggest you try running the K2661 output into the Phatty external input, to run the Kurzweil sound through the Phatty filter. This is one of my favorite tricks for digital synths. Youāll want to turn the Phatty Oscillator 1 & 2 Level down so you only hear the external input.
Hi Amos.
Iām very happy to be a part of moog family.
Be sure that i will have to do many ātricksā as that you wrote.
I order an ampiltube irig so i want to run my slim phatty, my tetra or my stylophone through filtatronā¦or to run moog through live mode of my K2661.
I have lot of experiments to doā¦
Thank you !!!
Today 31/12 i finally receive my lp. When i came back from work i saw the package from DV247.
I ,always, not be very excited the first days when i buy a new instrument⦠i will write my opinion after a few days. The first thing is that lp sounds not so different,in my ears, from tetraā¦
But i have a little āproblemā that i must write it in a new thread.
I donāt listen any tuning problem, but i will see it again tomorrow.
Enjoy your LP!!! It definitely sounds much better then the tetra. Have some time with it and a new world will open for you. What can also be the case is that you listen to it when going through a soundcard or mixing desk. Of course I donāt know your situation (gear wise) but I know my phatty sounds a LOT better when heard with the built-in headphone output compared to the sound when converted with my soundcard.
For me itās the best synth I have ever owned. Great sound with great controls!
Up to now no virtual analog even comes close to the real thing (for that matter, why did moog license to arturia??)
Itās no way better sounding than Tetra. It is different sounding but not better, just like a Gibson with a Fender guitar. Both great but differnet soundingā¦
Sp is a fine instrument. Yesterday i recorded it for first time. I play a bass line in a new song of mine. No problem with tune. I have set it to autotune and after 15 minutes is perfect !!!
Each to his own⦠(IMO The Tetra doesnāt sound much better than a microKorg, but keep in mind that around here nobody will admit that they have ever heard anything that touches the Moog sound, except maybe a dotcom modular⦠)
Because tetra oscilators is digitaly controlled, this doesnāt mean that they are not analog(http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/newbay/kb_201001/index.php?startid=7#/62), read the āneed to knowā sectionā¦
And Andromeda oscilators are digitaly controlled but it is one of the best analog polysynths ever. Tetra is not a VA, and believe me i have heard too much VAāsā¦
By the way ,I am so happy that i bought a moog synth after so many synths i have bought in the pastā¦
And I also made an honest mistake, for some odd reason I thought you meant the Virsyn Tera. Which obviously is a VA.
My mistake, although I also think the moog sounds better then the tetra, but by a lesser margin, I used to own a P08, but when I got the moog I didnāt use it anymore, so I ditched it..hehe
but also the DSI stuff is better then VA of course!
I know DCOās are not digital. They just sound⦠er⦠different
Personally Iād take an old battered Korg Polysix (VCO) over an Andromeda or anything from DSI any day. But as I said - itās all a matter of taste. Iām sure Doug Curtis and Dave Smith have their followersā¦
Iām a long time Moog lover but I finally have one for my very own. I just unpacked my new Slim Phatty a few hours ago and it sounds amazing. I did have to do a complete calibration, though, but it was pretty easy. I also own a Dave Smith Mopho and itās a totally different beast than the Phatty. Both sound great in their own right and Iām satisfied with each of them. While the Phatty and Mopho overlap in certain areas, each has their own defining characteristics.
The Slim Phatty is a bit more playable due to a more ergonomic design that was really set up for tweaking. You also canāt mistake that classic Moog sound which is one of the reasons I bought it. The Mopho has a lot more options which gives you the ability to do some really wild things with it but itās quite a bit less user friendly when it comes to tweaking. If youāre not content with setting up new patches via the software interface, then itās certainly not for you.
Well, after years of trying to find a classic Moog that was in the right condition, Iām happier that I was able to grab something new. Iāve been waiting for a desktop sized Moog for quite a few years and the Slim Phatty fits the bill nicely.
I am pretty sure that you will enjoy your sp as i do(i have it since last friday).
I already recorded a bass line from it in my new track. Huge sound. I also recorder some sounds from my tetra(pads and strings are excellent from this little box)
Every time i play with my sp, i wish my tetra have more controllers to tweak. I am thinking to buy a mopho keyboard to poly chain my tetra for better tweaking. It will be a top 5 voice analog synthā¦
You can use pot mapping to define what midi CC is sent by each knob or look up what CC is sent by each parameter of the SP, turn local control off and use each of the phattyās knobs to control parameters of the mopho/tetra.
If you are using an external tuner, try setting the tuning to manual. Let the Phatty warm up for about 15-20 min. Tune with the fine tune knob using the calibration patch. Tuning should be stable if the environment stays the same. If the fine tune knob is not moved the LP/SP should warm up to be in tune the next time you power it up.
