new moog head, feat. dub techno

Hi folks,

I’ve just recently got into moog gear. I purchased a slim phatty and a midi murf a couple of weeks ago, and I have a mf-104SD on the way

I produce various sorts of electronica. Generally been mostly software, apart from a few rack units, and the slim is my first analog synth.

I really got into it to get some extra warmth and hands-on feeling for a live dub techno project I’m working on.

I’m afraid to say I’m hooked, and I think I will also be picking up an MF-108 (I think mainly to give the mono output of my delay some stereo sparkle, but also for other mangling duties), and a CP-251 to get some live randomness into the foogers. (I’m particularly love the idea of sporadically introducing sample and hold into the delay time via attenuator, yum)

Anyway, today I had my first live jam with my new toys.

Phatty does the bassline; Ableton does the synth and drums; Midi MURF adds some dripping wet niceness to just about everything (I ran it on a return channel and feed little bits of everything to it as I went).

No EQ or even really paying much attention to the levels, so apologies for the roughness of the mix! I just dumped it all straight to ‘tape’

Looking forward to learning of you all and getting ideas (although my bank account may disagree!)

so my 104SD arrived and I picked up a shiny new 108M .

I also took my 104SD into a retailer to try it out with the CP-251. Results were not as musical as I’d like really, I think it’s better suited to synthesis. I decided to pass on it as the 105M and 108M have enough control going on via midi and their own LFOs to justify it. Plus I’m primarily using the phatty for basslines which do not call for a lot of patching beyond the existing modulation.

Desk is a little cluttered so I had to streamline my midi control, but it’s worth it.

here’s another improvisation if anyone is interested > http://soundcloud.com/flippo/live-dub-improv-2

I’m thinking of maybe getting a tetra for my chords and that should be enough analog for my needs
