I don’t know if they will abandon the Phatty right off the bat…that was Bob’s final design.
This may very well cost more than the Phatty. One would think that the Minitaur would supplant the Phatty, if anything would.
Why would the Minitaur replace the Phatty? Completely different voice architecture, and the Taur can’t even play anything higher than C5.
I thought the new Moog was supposed to be a contender against the Minibrute, but it seems pretty similar to the Phatty except it’s got more than 4 knobs and no patch storage. Seems like the $800 price mark has something to it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was over $1000 either. I tell you what, I’m selling my Minibrute now so I can get one of these.
Alot of folks love the LP, with good reason- I had one and sorely miss the patch storage and LFO options, especially for live use- I see this as just another flavored Moog- A welcome addition to the family!

Totally ridiculous assumption! There’s no reason to suspect MOOG is suddenly abandoning it’s very popular and award-winning Phatty line. As Kevin and others have pointed out ~ all of the Moog instruments are considerably different from each other. Each of them has brought something new to the mix~ a wider range of options of both sounds and interface.

Why would anyone sell their LP when they haven’t even played the new synth yet? Who’s to say it will be “better”?..which is of course a matter of taste/opinion anyhow. The new synth has some cool features (as it should,) but it’s a bit premature to say that “no one will want a LP anymore.” What I do want however is a new polyphonic Moog…then we can start talking about selling things.

The SubPhatty will make a nice addition to my Voyager EB, Oberheim SEM Pro etc
I wouldn’t get rid of my Little Phatty, no matter what this new synth turns out to be. Might add the new one to what I already have, but the Phatty, being Bob’s last design, is something pretty special. Besides, I sold my Stage I and regretted it immediately, which is the only reason I now have a Stage II.

Amen! I sold my Tribute to go towards an Old School, and regret it! I’m a guitarist too, and have more than one guitar, because they all have their own tonal personality- the LP definitely has its own sound, which this new Moog won’t have- It’s just like the annoying Mini D = end-all-be-all Moog argument- Like the Moog sound is a one instrument quest that ends there- estupido! A box of Whitman’s sampler chocolate doesn’t just have one flavor does it?

I know from AMOS that the guys that wrote the code for the original phatty and Slim Phatty are there no more, and that je’s had quite a problem analyzing the code because the former coder did not comment anything in the code.
herefore it would make sense, if they decided to discontinue these products soon, and bring in a new Phatty… It’s just merely guessing of course, but it’s my bet that we’ll see the phatty and slim discontinued soon.
Don’t agree. New product, not much info about it yet although I enjoyed the demo from Herb. I might buy one to add to my LP if there was sufficient benefit. BTW, anyone selling a Voyager OS?
I’m responding to the comments made by the OP, not you, EricK (we’re pals but you still need to mail me that blank panel : )
It is very unlikely that Moog would place the text “Sub Phatty” so clearly, centered, and prominent if it was meant to indicate that the board was just a sub assembly, which it clearly is. If you look, there is a rather hefty cable coming from the ‘main’ board (horizontal at left rear of unit as you address it) to the left half of the control panel with a ribbon connecting left control to right control board. But having said this, there is no guarantee that the name is not a code name.
fyi: Little Phatty has a split board also except it’s a different sort of connector, not a ‘loose’ ribbon such as this.
As for the comment about Amos, I think it’s true that he inherited the code from the original programmer but has been maintaining it for a number of years, 2.x forward. Clearly, he’s made it his own, and has struggled to fit all of the functionality into all of the different builds (Tribute Architecture different from Stage II which is slightly different from Slim for example). Not a trivial task.
Otherwise, having spent more time with my Phatty and looking at the panel with a more critical eye over the recent few days, I can’t say that the interface is lacking ‘anything’. The use of push buttons instead of panel switch or pots for things like OSC range/footage, filter destination, and unrelated settings like OSC volume or Wave was never really a problem for me and to be honest, I found and still find the light ring a revolutionary interface design. MiniTaur was a return to the classic design and from the looks of it, the new product follows suit.
There has been, and we’ve all benefited from a resurgence of analog and if a knob for function classic design is what is selling now, good for Moog for filling the panel from left to right with knobs. Will it be the same form factor as LP such that a LP and SubPhatty may be played side by side, double shark fins in a row, much the way that Rick Wakeman once famously played two MiniMoog’s side by side, maybe?
Will two octaves ship, or two and a half or even three octaves on the new? We’ll know in a few weeks.
Will there suddenly be a mad rush from folks to sell Phatty on eBay? Maybe, but maybe not. I think it all comes down to sonic range of the new Phatty (is it as comprehensive as Little/Slim, or niche) with a secondary consideration being cost (if you SELL your Phatty for $850 minus eBay fees but have to spend $1,400 on the new model will it be worth it for you? Maybe, maybe not. People do like new.
I think we’re over-analyzing the name a bit much. Don’t you guys think it’s called “Sub Phatty” because it has a “sub-oscillator”? Wouldn’t that make sense, since the other Phatties don’t?
Your right. The name is Sub Phatty…price will infact be $999.
Also, there has been no word whatsoever of the LP or SP being discontinued. As of right now, the Sub is just another addition to the Phatty family.
…since fitting a CV BreakOut Box for the Slim has been a problem ~ I’m wondering if Mr.SUB could be a way to bring that functionality to the table? ~ Exciting times! Gosh Namm it! We shall see! We shall see! 
Is anyone else thinking that is just a bass synth. In the little demo it’s only lower notes we hear. I hope I’m wrong but I’m not thinking that a LP old school is in the works.

I, too, am thinking bass synth. It appears in the video to only have a 25 key keyboard. This would suggest a limited frequency range, and seeing as how the demo only shows the lower registers being played, I’d say that yes, this will be strictly a bass synth.
