Bought my Little Phatty SE approx a month ago.
I seem to have to re callibrate it at least once a week..(2 hour job eachtime )
How comes it goes out of tune so often …?
It just sits in my recording studio (its never moved or subject to low temperatures etc)…
Also if i hold a note down for a long period of time (say 4 seconds i can hear the 2 ocillators slightly modulating with eachother with no modulation engaged…
Is that just the ocillators slightly drifting with eachother…?
I don’t have an answer for why you’ve had to recalibrate, but I’d like to understand what’s going on. When you say it goes out of tune so often, can you be more specific? Do you mean Osc 1 and Osc 2 are in tune with each other on one note, but out of tune with each other on a different note?
As to your other question, when you hear the 2 oscillators slightly modulating with each other, can you adjust the tuning of Osc 2 so both Osc’s are zero-beat in tune with each other? If so, and that makes the modulation sound go away, then it’s as you say–the osc’s slightly drifting with each other.
Thanks for the reply…
What i mean is it goes out of tune with all my other synths…
Access virus / Waldorf etc
The 2 ocillators are slightly out of tune with each other as well…
I have tuning set to off in the master section.
And always give it plenty of time to warm up. 30 mins or so…
Is the Autotune function something that needs to be set each time i turn the Phatty on…?
I turned the Phatty on this morning and it was out of tune with my other synths again..(even after 45 mins of warmup time)
I used the Auto tune function and it sorted the problem out once it settled at 60.00
Im guessing that touching the keyboard whilst the autotune does its thing sort of transposes the keyboard, as i tried it once before and the keyboard had been transposed up a few notes…
It’s true, if the LCD screen is displaying the TUNE page and you are watching the number change in the lower right of the LCD, pressing a key at this point will set the current pitch as the “target” for the auto-tune function to maintain. As far as I know this does not happen if Auto-tune is engaged but you are seeing a different LCD display (panel/preset mode for example) - in that case, unless you have previously set a different target it will try to maintain concert pitch. You can use this to your advantage if you are playing with an instrument or group that is not tuned to A440; on the Tune page you can set tune to Auto and use the Cursor button to select the number in the lower right of the LCD, then adjust this number manually using the Value knob to set precisely the target pitch you want Auto-tune to maintain. Likewise if you accidentally pressed a key and it’s not tuning to 60.00 (that means middle C, MIDI note 60, 0 cents detuning), you can use Cursor and the Value knob to set the target to 60.00. After a slight delay you will see the number “catch up” to your setting as the instrument re-tunes itself to the target pitch.
Also, as long as you allow 30 seconds or more before powering down after changing the TUNE mode to AUTO, the LP should save this setting to its memory and it will be in AUTO tuning mode the next time you power on the instrument.
Just to let you all know that using the Auto tune mode in the Master section has solved the tuning problem i had when i first bought the synth…
All i do now is turn the LP on, leave it 20 mins and just check the autotune has reached 60.00 before i touch the keyboard…
