I have a new version of Little Phatty (and Slim Phatty) firmware. If you’d like to test it, post here and I will send you a link via PM.
Let me know if you are using Windows or Mac. I personally am having an issue with the Mac loader where it takes a long time (like 30 minutes instead of 2 minutes) to send the update… other people have used the same Mac PhattyLoader and it takes the normal couple of minutes, so please check this and let me know the result.
Here is what’s new in this update:
LOCAL CONTROL: OFF, ON, “noKB”. The new noKB setting turns off local control for the keys only, while the knobs still affect the sound.
ARP SETUP: SYNC LOCK (Off, On). New SYNC LOCK parameter keeps the arpeggiator phase constant from the time the arpeggiator is started, instead of resetting the timing on new notes. Sync Lock OFF gives the old behavior.
POLY mode: Multiple improvements and bug fixes to Poly mode. Fixed several ways that different units could get out of sync, and added a new voice-stealing behavior: When you release a note, the system looks for any keys that are still held whose voice has been stolen by a subsequent note, and re-plays the most recent stolen note. In practice, this helps prevent notes from seeming “dropped” when polyphony is momentarily exceeded (such as when playing legato phrases).
MIDI Time Code (MTC) bug is fixed
MIDI CC filtering bug is fixed: a few panel controls (Sync, osc octaves, mod source/dest) would still send MIDI even when MIDI CC filtering should have blocked them from sending.
PRESET MWHL (Mod Wheel amount saved with presets): added to Little Phatty (Slim Phatty already had this, but LP didn’t until now).
Turning off the arpeggiator while still holding a note: the held note continues to play now, instead of being silenced when the arp is turned off.
Thanks for your hard work on updating the SP/LP firmware!!! I love the continuing support that Moog offers, and I would love the opportunity to test this out… PM is fine, or posted here if that’s what you want to do.
Would love to test this one - I am on a MAC however - did you manage to sort out the MIDI CLOCK DIV setting bug? (not saving along with presets/returning always to default value)
When triggering the SlimPhatty from my Tempest, it seems the SP gets note on/off reversed.
I cant get Tempest to do this with another synth, or in Ableton Live.
The Tempest seems to be triggering properly,
however the SP seems to get stuck with a note on.
Prior to this beta it did the same thing, and activating and deactivating the arp killed the stuck note.
With this current beta, only restarting the SP will rid of the stuck note.
I am still uncertain this is an SP bug, yet after trying this new beta I am thinking it falls on the SP and the Tempest is acting as expected.
Good to talk to you personally at the Trash Audio meet in October. And indeed you did say You were going to work on an update to address the dropped notes when poly-chaining! You have done this and this is very cool.
I do have a Mac, but if it does not brick my Phattys I am willing to try the slow update procedure!
My Phatty is a Tribute, but on the inside the guts are a Stage II (because a few years ago I had this changed by you all) so please send me a link to the new Beta os for a Stage II. And for the Slim Phatty as well as I am poly-chaining the two.
Hi Amos, If you currently work on the LP firmware, pleeease tweak the Midi velocity curve that the LP sends out from the keyboard. It has too small values for the low numbers. For example: If you use the LP as a Midi-keyboard with Logic and you press the keys very light, you sometimes get no sound. This is different from all the regular midi keyboards I tested. Please consider to adjust the velocity curve with this firmware upgrade. -Steve
