im running a Midi/Cv converter between my korg electribe em-1 and my micromoog. and i have everything tuned and scaled properly. but when the note on my Em-1 plays it wont play on the Moog until its released. kind of like the up stroke of the note… is there any way to fix this other than moving all my drums up one step? (which works but is annoying) Thanks
What Moog do you have?
MICROmoog
what kind of input is it? is it a stereo in/out?
OK, with this detail it is clear what is going on:
most Moogs do have a S-trigger for the gate. This is a shorting of the inputs of the gate/trigger input.
While most other companies use voltage trigger/Gate. There a voltage of +5 V (or sometimes even more) tells the synth to play a note.
So what you need is either:
- adjust your Midi/CV interface for S-trigger (-> see manual)
or - built yourself a little V-trig to S-trig converter.
Like this one from http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/drumstuff :
The circuit that I have is very simple. One VMOS FET (something like the
VN10KM). No power, nothing...
it's something like:
S|-----------------o S-Trig
---
G | |
trig o---------| |
|___|
V-Trig. | D
|
gnd o------------------------------o gnd
where G, S, and D stand for Gate, Source and Drain - and I may have them
mixed up, coz I'm doing this from a bad memory)
Of cause the ground is always the shaft.
I don’t know if the Micromoog got stereo sockets for interfacing in and out with a single socket. If yes, you might have to check if the tip or the ring is the ingoing trigger.
Remark:
the S-trigger was chosen by Moog most likely, because every simple switch or pedal can be used to trigger something. Which is a nice and easy thing to do. While a V-trig would need a source of voltage (Battery) in a switch to act like a trigger.
the midi/cv has S and V trig out puts… maybe labeled wrong? and i already trimmed the voltage down on the converter. and the S-trig is a mono cable
JOY OF JOYS! i figured out the problem…the V-trig and S-trig are backwards. i decided to plug into the V-trig and it worked perfect. thanks for the help
i don’t have a full grasp on v-trigs and s-trigs yet, but as far as i can figure, s-trigs keep the note on until it’s resstarted (by pressing a key) and v-trigs are the inverse. if i have it right, it means your s-trig and v-trig are working properly, it’s just that your application called for a v-trig.
i am just sort of learning as i go with s-trig, v-trig, midi… im just glad it works lol
