Need advice on a keyboard stand please

Any idea where I can find a stand for my Oberheim OBX-A and Little Phatty? I want the LP on top of the OBXA.

Thanks,

Cole

i use an apex column stand… works well, looks good.

Get the better one rather than the delta low-end one. there’s a new apex out now, might be even better, but pricey.

basically, I hates X-stands!!!

That thing doesn’t look like it would hold the HUGE OBXA! Are you sure it will?

The quicklock 2 tier stands will hold 2 88 key pianos like the Motif or the Fantom.

I don’t know how tall the OB is but the quicklock IS an X Stand. I have my voyager sitting on one right now and have had the Voyager on the top tier.

Eric

I had my quicklock modified by a carpenter in order to hold the OB-8 (which is more or less the size and weight of the obxA).

They are DEEP machines,

and I like the upper keyboard to ā€œdropā€ immediately above the lower keyboard (hammond-style), I don’t like to outreach for the upper keys.

I also like my keyboards flat, and at the closest height as possible

Finally, as I said, I switched to the more sturdy, four-legged WS series

(and sold the OB and the phatty… for a master, a prophet and a voyager, but that’s another story)

Yup, I was worried about the length of the OBie. I can find plenty that will hold just the OBie but not both. To make matters worse I’ve got my Taurus I I’d like to put down bellow. Anybody out there make custom stands?

I made a project using quiklock parts, then went to a carpenter and had everything customized,

and I spent almost nothing.

Asking a carpenter to cut three pieces of iron and re-soldering them will cost you… what? 30 bucks?

and complete repainting of the stand will cost 30 more.

You got any show off pics ozy?

The Taurus Pedals are forcing me to rethink my setup. I have the Voyager and MicroMoog to contend with so my boat is the same as yours.

THe Obxa is pretty huge.

What I would do, and what Im really thinking about doing is getting a tabletop stand, similar for what one might need for a Polymoog or Rhodes Stage with no legs and putting the Voyager on that, with the Taurus below

Now for the second tier you might just settle for a cheaper X Stand behind the table, but as far forward as you can get it. You still might need to reach a tiny bit for the phatty depending on the depth of the OB, but I think with that keyboard being super side like that, you are goign to have trouble reaching anything on the top tier anyway.

And the Taurus Pedals are probably deeper than that behemoth.

My problem is trying to find a keyboard stand that will hold the Voyager at piano height, and still be wide enough at the base to fit the taurus in so I can actually use them properly.

Are you looking for a studio rig or a gig rig?

Eric

Edit:

Wait, what about those tubular frame stands, A Stands or whatever, i think John L Rice has some?

This one is an On Stage A Frame stand, only 116 bucks

This might just solve my problem, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before.

Eric

Eric, that mite be the solution! I’m going to check it out.

a Z stand might do it too I was just looking at one in the catalog.

I’ve got a Z stand now. Not enough room on the bottom for the Obie. You can put the Obie on top though! Looks a little weird. Kinda top heavy too.

Have not,

Can do!

Eric, I’ve got that bench stand too! I’ve got my Prophet sitting on it and the Taurus fits very nice under. I think the Voyager will be perfect for it.

Reading this thread might have just saved me thousands of dollars…

I came across this review on Guitar Center’s website of the exact stand that I am usingā€¦ā€œPro lineā€ 3 tier X stand…http://www.guitarcenter.com/ProLine-Quick-Release-Double-X-Brace-Keyboard-Stand-102530888-i1167837.gc?source=4WPGWXX

BE VERY CAREFUL OF THIS PRODUCT !!! I play professionally, 3 to 4 nights a week…the bolts loosen up at the cross bracing, whigh makes the lock pin ineffective…on a gig just last night, I placed my Yamaha s 90 es on the stand…it collasped, and the round adjusting plate went right through the bottom of my s 90…which created it’s own set of problems…remember, every time you open up this stand to set it up, you are also loosening up the bolts that hold it together…I think that since this is a guitar center product, they should pay for the damages…IF YOU VALUE YOUR KEYS, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!

There are two sets of bolts at the cross section of this thing…one of which was missing. Basically, the pin was the only thing holding all the weight. I’ve only played live twice with this stand…

Scary to think that this was holding my Voyager, Minimax ASB, vx-351, cp-251, mf102, mf103, mf104z, mf105, mf107(foogers mounted to a board)

As I am writing this, my Voyager and his friends are resting on my couch. I guess I’ll be getting a new stand soon.

Brilliant! Exactly what I need, too!

Ordered mine yesterday!

I read a review of this stand, says its made out of plastic, can pick it up with one hand. I don’t know if Id trust it with Alot of heavy and expensive gear.

Theres a guy on here who build stands using tubular metal poles. Im trying to remember if that is John L Rice or not. That would be the type of stand Id want to get for sure.

Eric

Well now you tell me Eric! :stuck_out_tongue:
