If you get a midi-cv converter, you could buy the freq box and have a 3rd osc for your LP! The only thing is that the output is kind of hot for it, and since the LP doesn’t have a mixer section, you’ll need a way to bring the level going into the phatty down, otherwise the phatty oscs will be drowned out by it pretty bad, even w/ em maxed out. A simple mixer works, as well as just running the osc into the 102, then dropping the output down w/ it.
Keep in mind the 107 can also act as a new modulation source to your existing gear as well.
As an effects unit it’s pretty fun too! Running drums through it especially is a blast w/ the FM function.
I have the Low Pass, Freqbox and Ring Modulator and the CP-251 is one its way. If the Murf had multiple independent band pass filters with their ovn CV controls then I would be intersted. Perhaps something like this but in fooger format:
I realize that is a bit much to put on a fooger but perhaps in CV-251 fomat it may work.
Otherwise, I am not that into sequenced anything. I can see it being very useful for certain genres but not for me.
The phaser, while in many ways is you basic phaser, provides CV control and that can be very useful with drones. So yes, I would have a use for this but I would have to go with the delay before this despite the cost.
I’m curious as to whether attenuating the incoming signal would be possible via future firmware update. It’d sure be a useful feature since the resonance characteristics of the filter is dependent on the incoming signal strength, and if you’re in my boat, aren’t using a true mixer* at the moment.
*using the mixer in my XS to bring levels down to something normal.
When you get a Freqbox and say “This thing is awesome” youll owe everyone here a drink.
Freqbox and Cp251 = accompanying synth. Get some modular style patching going, playing melodies on your Phatty and then bring up the volume on a Freqbox which is being ring modulated or phased, you have an extra voice out there. Its very nice.
My complex waveform video was all frexbox. Since its an Osc, Im thinking with the right tweaking you can get all types of replications of instruments with it from bass drums to other things.
It’s pretty wicked. Sounds quite a bit different than the Voyager too (imo it sounds better), not to mention you have a knob for overdrive as well. Another point to consider is that the 107 isn’t temperature controlled like the LP or Voyager, so you get a little drift, and it’s tuning is a little less reliable. It really does sound like a vintage synth, esp if you’re running just the 107 into the LP, with maybe a little coming from one of the built in oscs.
one more thing: Independent pulse width modulation. If you’re modulating the 107 with one osc somewhere (say your 102), and the LP oscs PWM internally w/ the LFO, you get some AMAZING results. Lush and chorus-y.
That actually an interesting idea. I just ordered a MIDI to CV box to link my Korg M3 into my foogers. This takes care of frequency but what about a trigger. This is the one thing foogers lack along with an envelope.
I’ve tried using the cv mixer for audio purposes, but it introduces a nasty hum, so no go there. Can’t remember what happened when I tried the attenuators, but I’ll post back tonight unless anyone else here wants to chime in.
Hmm. I don’t have mine to try it out.
Maybe it was the “powered” jacks that caused hum? On the mixer, see if Input 2 gets a different result as opposed to Input 1.
If it is the power issue, then the attenuators would have the hum too.
