My dream: I want visit Moog Music

Hi Synthvolk,

I have a big dream, I want to travel to Amerika and visit the moogmusic factory and sightseeing Asheville. But I have a little bit fear of flying.

Who of your Synthplayers was in the factory? How many people works there? Oh my good I want to make a week holiday there in Asheville, that`s a dream a long time ago.

cheers Christa

I used to be afraid of flying but its actually very exciting and so much more smoothe than riding on a bus or in an automobile.

THe only thing that really stinks is returning home from overseas when you enter the realm of homeland security.

But you shouldn’t be afraid to fly at all because once you get in the air you start to really enjoy it, and once you start accumulating some frequent flyer miles then they really are worth it.

Im approaching 40 thousand miles right now.

I’ve seen the old Ashville factory (they moved to bigger pastures a couple of years ago). Definitely worth a visit, and call them to schedule a visit.

I also saw the Buffalo factory back in the early 80s. Memorymoogs, Polymoogs, Sources, Rogues, Prodigys… :open_mouth:

I live in America and dream of visiting as well.

I have for quite some time.

I am getting my degree in electrical engineeing in spring. Although I live many states away, I believe it would be a dream job. Almost unreal. There are people in Asheville who can say that they make Moog products.

I am, as a technical reporting assignment, writing a research paper to request a full analog modular synthesizer for my college.

I think alot can be learned.

Welcome to the forum synthwoman. I wish you luck in your dreams.

I live fairly close to the factory and have visited there several times. The factory is housed in what must have been a larger factory years ago. There are several different companies that work out of the building. There is a warm, homey feeling in the Moog area. If my memory serves me correctly, the floors are wood. The outside walls are brick. When you walk in you see racks and racks of products in various states of completion. There are many work benches where people are assembling a Moog product. Everyone seems very friendly and will take the time to answer questions. There is one room with all the Moog products, and you can try them out. The Moog factory is definitely a nice place to visit, and worth going to.

We recently posted a quick photo-tour of the factory. Check it out…

Thanks,

Nice photoset–any modulars kicking around?

Modulars kicking around?
Well sure. They didn’t put up the pics of the bathrooms.
There, they use Moog 55 modulars as towel holders.
A couple more are used as speed bumps in the parking lot.
3 more are used as Christmas trees during the holidays, but are usually used to hold ball point pens for the accounting dept.
Of course they’re quite large for this, so I understand they’ll be replaced and used for dart throwing targets during lunchbreaks.
Darn modulars all over the place.
Ya gotta kick 'em out of the way.

Only when Keith Emerson is in the house;)

Actually there is a Synton 3000 modular here (about 20 modules) in the engineering department; Bob used to be the American importer for Synton.
That’s it for modular gear, although I believe that Dr. Moog still had an original modular synth in his storage shed. If so, it must be in desperate need of restoration.

Christa, we were recently visited by your compatriots, Jens Steinmeyer and Thomas Wolf, here at the factory from Germany. At least one of them was terribly afraid of flying, but he came here anyway and I am glad they made the trip. I hope to see you some day as well!

Kind regards,

Amos

Is that THomas Wolf, the Jazz musician/composer and father to those Nikelodeon boys “the Naked Brothers Band”

Hey I knoy know that because my niece is 12 and Ive heard that Crazy Car song about a billion times.

heheh

PPhhhuuu, I drive with my big Yamaha FJ 1200 Motor-bike 240 km/h on the german highways or I am sailing with my old little Sailingboat over the sea and in all this things I doesnt have fear but why cant I fly?

That`s so terrible :smiling_imp: but I want to realize my dream. I love Bob, I love Moogsynths, I love Amerika, oh my god.

you know the TV series “the a-team”?
they always had to trick mr. t into an aeroplane…
maybe you could copy their tricks?

You need to just get that passport, get that ticket and once you realize that you spent the money on the ticket, you have to justify that expense by actually going. WHen you get on the plane just take some motion sickness pills or have some drinks. It can’t be that long of a flight anyway.

Just go for it!

(Just only if you can bring me your liberation and let me hold it for you to protect it while you are in country")

As long as you’re dreaming, why not dream that Moog Music visited you?

You’re lucky to be going to the Musikmesse.
