Murf guitarists and sync strategies

Hi,

I’m a brand new user of the MIDI-MuRF. I hope to be able to share ideas on how to use this wonderful device with other. In particular, I’m wondering how many people out there are guitarists who use the MuRF versus keyboardists. Not that it matters a lot but guitarists how some different challenges.

Right now, my goal is to get the pedal to work in a live context and in particular beat-syncing to the band. I’ve got a simple latch pedal hooked to the tap/step to get the tempo. I’m still trying to figure out how to change the rate division in this context.

The other challenge is to get the pattern to fall on the downbeat. I’d really like to lock the Murf to the drum groove. The approach I’m trying right now is to send a MIDI CC90 from my G-system to the Murf. I believe this should restart the pattern to 1 once that’s sent.

I’m getting some success but it seems that I need to rehit the CC90 about every measure or 2 to keep it on track because my tap-tempo isn’t always exact (nor would I expect the drummer to stay perfectly on tempo).

Is anyone else trying to do this? Any other approaches that work better?

Thanks!

Kevin

as a guitarist, and a psychedelic & electronic music fan, i use it to get that wooshy univibe sound, or creepy reverse whisper effect
