Multiple Phatties?

I mentioned in another thread that I was thinking of getting a SP and also a DSI Tetra since I thought their sounds would be complementary. However, I just saw a great video at experimentalsynths.com where a guy was doing some cool modulation with a LP and a SP. His LP had the CV output mod, and he was using the pitch CV out on the LP to feed the filter CV in of the SP and getting tempo-synced filter modulation. Just one of the tricks he was doing with the two Phatties together.

So now, of course, I’m thinking that would be a cool setup. Does anyone else have multiple Phatties and do anything like this? Is it pretty straightforward to do, or would it be a stretch for an analog synth newbie like me?

Also, does anyone know if there is someplace where you can buy the LP with the CV mod already installed, so you don’t have to send it back to Moog? Does Moog sell them directly with the mod preinstalled?

Thanks,
Dan

Glad you enjoyed the video. Here’s another quick one that may pique your interest…

To answer your question, it is incredibly straightforward to do. Just run a cable from the PL’s Pitch CV Out to the Slim Phatty’s Filter CV In. You may need to lower the Filter cutoff setting on the SP to give the CV some headroom to play in, but that’s a piece of cake. You can se me doing that at the beginning of the video you watched.

These techniques also work well with the Voyager in place of the SP. If you have a VX-351, it can take the place of the LP in the new video linked above or if you are sequencing the Voyager (since it does not have an arpeggiator) you can use it in place of the LP in either application, using the Pitch Out on the VX-351.
