What would be the closest approximations of the Modular 3C, Minimoog, Lyra and Apollo sounds heard on Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s “Karn Evil 9,” to be transcribed for the Multimoog and the Polymoog?
The Multimoog would be used to re-create the Modular 3C/Minimoog/Lyra sounds (as they are all monophonic or “solo” synths), while the Polymoog Synthesizer will handle the Apollo sounds.
Cases in point:
- The synthesizer solos on the “1st Impression” are all Modular 3C, while some of the basslines are Minimoog. Would the Polymoog’s Polypedal be suitable for the latter purpose?
- The steel-drum patch heard on the “2nd Impression” was created with a Minimoog.
- The horn patch heard on the “3rd Impression” was created with the Lyra prototype; while the random pattern of notes which speeds up after each round was created with the Modular 3C hooked up with Carl Palmer’s drum kit (?). The swirling synthesizer sound is the Apollo.
- Although the Polymoog can re-create the sound of an organ, would this be any good here?
