[MTRE] LFO MIDI Sync behaviour

Hello,

I’m experiencing some problems with the LFO MIDI Sync with the new Minitaur Editor 3.2.0b4. I don’t know if it was already there with the previous versions of the editor, as I rarely used it (I played just with the hardware most of the time) and I rarely sync it to MIDI clock.

Test environment: Cubase 8.5.20, MTRE loaded in an instrument track (I’m using the VST3 version), controlling my Minitaur through usb, while Cubase sends notes and MIDI Clock through the DIN MIDI port. Cubase was playing while running the tests.
Minitaur Editor: 3.2.0b4
Firmware: 2.1.10.

First part of the test:
1 - Activate MIDI Sync; also set LFO Clock Divider to something like 1/4 to make the problem easier to notice in the next steps
2 - Move the LFO Rate knob: the Minitaur immediately ignores the midi clock sync and starts following the LFO Rate value, but the MIDI Sync button on the editor is still turned on (I’d espect it to go off).
3- Set the LFO Rate fully clockwise (so there will be a noticeable change when going back to MIDI Sync).
4 - Click on the MIDI Sync button twice: first time to turn it off (no effect, it’s already off because of the previous actions), then click it again: the button turns on, but the LFO remains at the speed set by the LFO rate. MIDI Sync is still off even if you press the MIDI Sync a few times.
5 - While the MIDI Sync button is turned on, change the LFO Clock divider (to something like 1/8): the LFO speed immediately switches back to MIDI Sync.

Second part of the test:
6 - Repeat steps 1 to 3 (go from MIDI Sync to LFO Rate), set LFO rate fully clockwise
7 - Click on the MIDI Sync button once to turn it off
8 - Change the LFO Clock divider (to something like 1/8) while the MIDI Sync button is still off on the MTRE. The LFO speed doesn’t change (it’s still controlled by the LFO Rate setting, as it should be)
9 - Click on the MIDI Sync button to turn it on: the LFO immediately follows the MIDI Clock.

To sum up the issues:
a - The MIDI Sync button state doesn’t reflect the current hardware state.
b - The MIDI Sync button doesn’t work if MIDI Sync has been turned off by the LFO Rate knob, untill there’s a change to the LFO Clock Divider setting.

I didn’t try monitoring the MIDI CC going from the editor to the Minitaur and/or to send those MIDI CC directly from Cubase without using the editor (should I?), so I’m not 100% certain sure if the (b) issue is due to the MTRE or the firmware.

Thanks for the detailed report,

Added along with more known Sync issues - hopefully will be fixed on next beta.
