Mother-32 Capabilities

Forgive me if this seems rudimentary, but I did have a few questions about the Mother’s capabilities that haven’t really been answered elsewhere.

  • I’ve seen some mention that the Mother-32 can be used as an additional oscillator for my Sub Phatty. Is this true? Claims seem to be unsubstantiated.

  • Can I use the Mother’s sequencer to trigger the Sub Phatty? I see a lot that says the “Mother-32’s sequencer is coupled to the synth engine.”

  • If I’m thinking of getting a Eurorack system together, are the filters on the Mother usable as a filter module for other oscillators?

  1. Mother-32 can be used as an additional oscillator for any system that supports either MIDI out or a 1v/oct CV. In the case of Sub Phatty you’d use the former. Then you wire Mom’s output to the PHATTY’s Audio In. You can also directly wire VCO SAW and VCO PULSE to a +/-5V audio input.

  2. Mother-32’s sequencer should be perfectly usable to program your Sub Phatty. You’d connect Mom’s KB and Gate CV outputs to your Phatty’s Pitch and Gate CV inputs. I have two Moms and played with this exact setup, it works fine.

  3. Mother-32’s filter can be used to filter external +/-5V audio (again, much louder than typical line output). You’d connect your external OSC to the EXT. AUDIO port on the Mom and turn the MIX knob all the way to the right to silence Mom’s internal OSC. You can then decide to either use Mom’s envelope or just pass the audio through (VCA mode switched to ON).
