I’m thinking of buying a Mos lab 921b clone but just wonder how original to the standard Moog 921b’s they are. I know that the dual JFETs Moog used at the time are not available now and wonder if the method/replacements used by Mos Lab now give a different result?
anyone any info on this?
Also are 921’s made by Club of the Knobs ‘exact’ clones (I think not?)
IF the JFETS were available for the 921b it would be just a matter of time and patience before I cloned this Osc. But , I aint puttin hours and hours of work risking with a substitue part that may or may not work..I did this with the early Mini Moog Osc. and it failed miserably. It goes against the grain for me to revert to actually BUYING modules but I just seemed to run out of options regarding obsolete parts. (and I really WOULD like some 921b’s in my system)
I know this is really off topic but I was actually thinking about how interesting it would be to have a 901 in my system just for drones or something along those lines.
well I’m not getting much responce from Mos Lab..maybe they dont need my cash?
I have to build a 921a driver and guess what??? yep..reduntant part required LM 308 op amp…although I may be able to substitute a TL071..I can certainly uprgrade the 741’s. Theres not much in the 921a so should be straight forward.
I can tell you that the 901bs sound superb..why ever no one designed a better driver I’ll never know..maybe its impossible. Hence the 921bs. Once you hear them you’ll use 'em more than just drones.
A great quote from SOS mag is..“once you hear them you’ll swear by them..once you’ve used them you’ll swear AT them.”
You know the Oakley Osc’s are pretty close to the 901bs..the best I heard so far..very much like the early Mini Moogs and very accurate.
I think it may be easier to cheat and certainly a lot lot cheaper by using more Oakleys behind DIY 921 panels. I’m thinking about this.
each Oakley Osc has its own driver and this would be a problem..but I worked out a way to do it. But there NOT Moogs (and neither I suppose are the Mos Labs)
