So, i’m the proud owner of a Clavinet D6 in decent condition. Its clean, shileded, original pickup and pre-amp, in great studio recording condition. It’s missing the usual: legs, flanges, music stand. And somehow, its even missing the steel/lead composite shielding plate under the pickup.
Anyway, ive been offered a trade: A moog taurus 1 in great shape for my D6.
Is this a good deal? I know Taurus 1’s are more rare, and used to go for a huge amount on ebay. But did the Taurus 3 impact the price that much that it would fall to the $1500 range?? I used to see Taurus ones for $3000 plus. And, Ive rarely seen a clav go for more than $1500 even in perfect shape (besides the fleecers on ebay trying to get $5000).
I’d take that trade. If you search ebay for sold T-1s, the last few have sold for between $1.5k - $2.2k. It all depends on which one you want the most & will use more.
I’d sure want to try out the Taurus fully before I made the trade. Personally, I would use the T-1 more, my playing style and the Clav don’t get along well.
Can you play, seriously? If so, the Clav is a one-of-a-kind thing. Nothing does what a real clav does. Having owned both, I’d prefer the clav- and did keep mine. But it’s NOT a good keyboard if you don’t have playing chops, it’s not forgiving or sexy-sounding without that rhythmic style that make it “go”.
Taurus pedals can be valuable, but I think it’s less-likely they’ll reissue the Clavinet. and the new Taurus seems to be MUCH better than the old ones.
