Wondering what a “run-of-the-mill”, “player” set of Moog Taurus 1 pedals cost

Well the mini is going to cost me an arm and a leg, so what the h$ll?!
(kidding, of course! … the prices of the quality vintage is a constant jaw dropper!)
I wonder where you would find a set. I’ve searched and haven’t seen a set for sale, for years.

They’re very hard to find anywhere.
I got very lucky when I stumbled on a pristine set in a vintage guitar store. Judging by the bargain price and the fact they were sitting in a case and not even on display, they didn’t even know what they had. Yeah, a vintage guitar store who is clueless about vintage moogs, go figure.
Don’t go rushing to that store - they no longer carry vintage keys. Sorry.
Those are outrageous prices, not just for the Taurus pedals.

Looks like a set just sold on Ebay for $1577.00 US. That would have been my guess at the going price today. The Taurus have the edge on sound and portability, as they are compact and plug in and play, dead simple.

I was lucky enough to pick up a set of the Taurus II controller pedals for about $75.00 US on Ebay a few years back. The Brain I use for the Taurus II was a little more expensive, but I can get that same deep bass. And it has an 18 note pedalboard. It’s just nowhere near as portable as the original Taurus.

Maybe it’s me, but the differences between the two Taurus models seems rather small when compared to a Hammond or the refrigerator-sized box a Synclavier uses..

Actually that Hammond is chopped! Notice the black posts for legs, the spinet part of that old L-100 is long gone. And the Sync 2 is the old original version with the shoe box CPU. Quote the NED sales brochure " Lighter than a Minimoog, its keyboard unit tucks under one arm".
But I did over do the Taurus 2 brain, replacing it with the still portable Moog System 1P. It does get that Taurus bass sound, …and then some. 
When I had a Hammond L-102, I did a similar chop job.
I actually made a new enclosure sort of like Keyboard Products offered.
I used the same legs as the Polymoog and Rhodes had.
I also boosted the percussion and the preamp, only to find that this created feedback at high volumes.
The tubes were too microphonic.
I fixed this by putting a layer of silicone rubber sealant between the tube and the base.
It could withstand the heat and shock-absorbed the tube.
Worked perfectly, but a little ugly.
I love the old Synclavier price lists from NED.
Everything was an even $5000.
More memory? $5000

Disk drive? $5000
At least it was a step in the right direction.
Bob Moog told me some years ago that when Dave Luce designed the original Taurus pedals, the filter was lifted right out of the modulars.

It seemed to me that someone got a nice deal on the ebay Taurus I set from Ontario Canada (Come on you U.S. guys … leave something up North for us Canucks to play!.. You already have every Rhodes and nice left handed guitar!!! )
They looked like good bang for the buck. Across the border in Michigan a vintage shop in Michigan wants $4500 on craigslist for a kicker set. Now that’s riding the market baby!
