i have a question about a moog synamp.
i can buy one , with which i’m very happy, its looking well , but without the speaker.
to get an idea of how much to pay for it reasonably, with the knowlegde that it also might need servicing or repair, i would be happy to get some info on the value of an amp/mixer/eq combination like this.
anybody good idea’s??
thanks beforehand, sunny
yes, thank you,
didn’t get that post , probably cause it’s only for the americanmarket available.
i wonder i he would get about the askingprice, but it’s definitively the one i’m able to buy, with the 2X200watt amp, graphic eq, 4channelsweepable eq , compressor etc. never knew the type though, only the name :in europe they are called moog synamp.
thank you already for your quick friendly answer.
afcourse further tips are always welcome on the topic.

The ebay item is an outrageous price. A complete system might be worth $1300, but not the lone Synamp without case, reverb tank, and companion speakers.
The head alone isn’t worth much more than US$600 and while it is heavy it is built like a tank and well suited for gigging. You need a deeeeep rack case and it MUST be secured using the mount holes on the bottom of the chassis or it will tear the rack ears out during shipping. The fidelity of the mixer is not up to par to today’s standards (it tops out at 15K) although the EQ is very effective and musical sounding. Most of the value is the dual 200w power amp, which does extend past 15K and it is near indestructable and loud enough to compete with Marshall amps on a stage. I plugged my studio system into the power amp alone - bypassing the mixer - and the fidelity difference was a lot better.
Not many of these around, but not a vintage item unless you have a fetish for everything moog.
i’m afraid there’s a lot of moogfetism going around, in fact most of us (me too) have at least a glimms of it.
so my guess is that 600$ is on the too low side: to me the main attraction of the synamp is not the amp ( my bell 9024 works at least as good and is lighter) no it is the modular concept with 4 seperate channels of sweepable filtering , a graphic eq and some more extra’s. i never found the frequentie limiting either and mostly use mine for studioapplications where it sits in its19inch rack.
after all i see a seperate graphiceq unit go away for 600$ already so guess it must be worth more.
askingprices on the net sofar were between 1250 and 2700 !??.
to me it’s important on the moment as i’ve been able to buy another 2 synampunits , however i have to get an idea on how much i can reasonably spend on their servicing and repair as i’m planning to keep 1 more for myself and sell one . so if it would become too expensive to fix i might have to adapt my plans.
in the far past i also found my first synamp for 550€, however i’m afraid that that’s past regarding what i had to pay for these 2 broken unit’s already and regarding what’s going on with respect to the perversities described above.
thanks a lot already for all input, also for the nice review , hope some more info on this subject will appear as the synamp is a bit too unknown subject on the net.

Here is a past auction. The seller had it for $1500.00 and it did not sell. Then re-auctioned with a best offer of $1000.00, but asked that it be picked-up. The auction included everything, amp, speakers/horn, covers.
Still, I would like to hear this setup with a Moog modular pushing it! Bet you could recreate an earthquake or subway! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280173984386
looking impressive …
i once heard Rush on pinkpop, think they had two of those units + a tauruspedal, still remember the bass rolling off the stage as if you could touch it with your hands. massive is the word.
the one i use at home, mainly for the modularmixing things seems as if it’s fitted for analogsynth’s, they don’t become thinner when being processed through the filters. the minimoog still sounds as fat as before, only with the desired accents in timbre ( might well be i’m deaf over 15000hz) .
the amp itself is used as second amp (next to the main monitor system) so i don’t have to worrie about blowing up my "expensive’ nearfields when tweaking. it adds something nice analog in the sound too, and so far never has gone louder then 4/10.
seems the price nowadays must be something between 600 and 1000 i guess, so presume that it’ll be something like 800$ when in good condition and being serviced , (and afcourse when equipted with a ventilator/temp sensor to avoid a loud fohningsound all the time ). gives me at least a slight clue on how far to go with repairs.
i wonder if the filters and the graphic eq are like on other moog products or if they were solely used in this amp.
also wonder if anybody could tell how many were made, and some other things of their history like original prices ±cabinets and whatever more might be of interest.

I have the rackmount graphic and parametric EQs as well as the Synamp.
The Graphic EQs are practically identical.
The Synamp sweepable EQ is nowhere near the circuit of the Parametric EQ.
A Synamp through the right cabinets is a thing to behold. My system is a biamped setup with a Peavey 2x15 for bass and Bose 802 for mid/highs. The Peavey cabinet can pump out some serious bass.
yes, a parametric eq has been on my list for long, however they are seldom, if never, seen on the european market. i understand in the us they are also rare and expensive.
( strange that their price would be about in the range of a synamp if i’m correct, after all the synamp is made with more effort, regarding it’s innerparts , than the eq which has something like 1 small printplate inside .)
