Moog Source Scaling Help

I was lucky enough to dig a Source out of my uncle’s attic where it has been sitting for a good 20 or so years. It was pretty beat up when I found it, some of the wood panels had come unglued and there was alot of dust and a disconnected ground, I opened it up and fixed that stuff. Everything seems to work fine, membrane, all keys etc.

There are a few issues that i need a little help with however, and maybe these are even just normal things that i think are weird… but some advice would be phenomenal.

  1. Some of the patches seem to scaled backwards… i.e. The notes go from higher to lower from left to right, instead of the standard right to left. Is this normal?

  2. This may be a fix for the above, but which trim pots inside will fix the scaling? They seem to be a little too low and murky.

  3. What would be the best way to clean the key contacts? like what cleaner, etc?

If you have answers to any of those questions, they’d be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

  1. Do you have the keyboard connector on the right way?

  2. No idea what low and murky means, but scaling a Source is not an easy task.
There are several trims… all interactive… that affect scaling.
I would recommend a professional tech here.
No trimmer will make the scaling go in the opposite direction.

3.Contacts can be cleaned with various solvents or alcohol, just don’t use anything that leaves a residue. I myself wash these types of actions and rarely clean the contacts individually.

thanks kevin.

i think its probably just a good idea to realize my limits with this whole thing and bring in the help of a pro, this synth is way too cool for me to obliterate just to save myself some pride.

i really appreciate the input.

Yeah the Source is a good analog board, but repairs and calibration should be left to a competent tech. Too many novices have caused more damage trying to fix it themselves.
