The Source uses S-trig, make sure the converter is not V-trig
If you have the older version with S-trig in/out on one jack, this is a TRS jack. Tip is trigger input, ring is trigger output. Newer versions have separate jacks for input and output.
I have one with S-Trig In and S-trig out on seperate ins/outs.
The thing that throws me a bit is that the Kenton manufacturer insists that “ext trig” must be enabled…and that this is determined through an “on” or “off” appearing on the Source’s display when “level 2” and 13 are pressed.
I have set the CV converter correctly and when I hold down a key it appears to be receiving the midi notes from Logic. Like I said though, it won’t generate any sound of it’s own accord…and the Kenton manufacturer assures me that this is due to the “ext trig” not being enabled correctly and that if it isn’t working, he recommends taking the Source to be serviced.
The weird thing is, the “13” pad is working on level 1 , and the “level 2” pad works when applied with other settings. It just doesn’t appear to do anything when 13 and L2 are pressed together.
I’ve looked all over the internet but there appears to be very little on the subject elsewhere.
Again, any futher pointers would be greatly appreciated.
The only problem is that the Kenton is set to strig. The converteris set up correctly according to the manual and Kenton insist that strig has ro be enabled using 13 + L2.
If the kenton is set up prperly and the source requires no adjusting, what might the problem be and where do I gp from here?
S-trig is a shorting trigger. In other words, the synth is triggered when the two terminals are shorted. A very quick way to test the Source is to disconnect the Kenton, then short the tip to sleeve on the trigger input of the Source. If the Source triggers then it is fine.
As MC just wrote, connect the TIP of the Ext Trig input to the SLEEVE of that connector momentarily and if your The Source is working fine, it should trigger a note.
I found a link somewhere that said there was some confusion over what type of jack had to be used in the S-trig input…The jack I was advised to use from the Kenton website was a trs to ring… but it turns out it should have been trs to tip on the s-trig input. I resoldered it in a minute…job done. Working perferctly.
Anther quick question while I am here though…I downloaded the Ctrlr software editor for my Oberheim M6…I was just wondering if there is anything similar for a Source ??
