I’m trying to enable the external Trig Input on my MOOG SOURCE to hook it up with a Kenton Midi/CV box.
I…
Press the “level 2” button
Press the “13” button (EXT TRIG) but the display does not show ‘on’ or ‘off’ it just remains unlit.
My “13” button works with “level 1” functions and other “LEVEL 2” functions work fine (like “AUTO TRIG” etc)
Am I doing something really stupid here!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The procedure you’re referring to only switches “on” or “off” the OUTPUT trigger signal from the Source synth.
To control your Moog Source from the outside (with a MIDI-to-CV interface), simply plug a S-Trigger signal into the “S-Trig In” jack on the back.
Note: some MIDI-TO-CV interfaces will output either a Gate signal (positive voltage pulse) or S-Trigger (switched). Be sure that you select the right trigger mode on the Kenton.
thanks! I’m now having more success!! but still having a problem (sorry I’m a new to syncing analog gear)
I have set the Kenton to CV and S-Trig and I have managed to get mdii to transmit to the SOURCE - but, it will only play if I’m holding down a key on the SOURCE?!?
Again, I’m probably missing something obvious here.
Ok. You’ve got an earlier version with only three 1/4" jacks and a DIN connector marked “cassette interface”. Unless it has been modified later on.
So your S-Trigger jack is then marked “S-Trig in/out”. You should make sure that the trigger signal coming from the Kenton is on the “tip” of your 1/4" male plug at the end of the trigger cable.
I know that in the user’s manual of The Moog Source, they show a diagram (on page 50) with the external trigger signal coming from a controller connected to the “ring” of a stereo 1/4" male plug, but that was mistake in the drawing that was later corrected in the service manual. It’s supposed to go on the “tip”. The “ring” is the trigger coming out of the Source.
