I am having some strange problems with my Moog Rogue.
Only the first three keys (F, Fsharp, G) from left to right play the correct notes! Gsharp alllll the way up the keyboard just play the low G. Very strange indeed. I have had this Rogue for 7 years and have cared for it very well, in fact, it has probably been in its current physical position for 3+ years.
Any ideas? I’ve opened it up, inspected the circuitry (especially the chain of resistors along the keys) and blown some of the dust out with no results. I’ve double-checked the voltage on the power supply and its correct. There’s only one line-out so that’s not it.
It sounds like there is nothing electricity wrong. If fact, it seems to be a tuning issue. You see, the trims (that are accessible from the rear) can become sensitive or degrade over time. My advice would be to follow the tuning instructions in the service manual before you start looking into repair. All you need is a Digital volt meter and a tuner to figure this problem out. Here’s the manual:http://www.hylander.com/images/schematics/moog/MoogRogueServiceManual.pdf
I don’t agree that it’s a tuning issue or that the trims should be adjusted.
If he’s getting only 3 notes from the instrument, adjusting the trims won’t help and can only make things worse.
It’s likely he has bad or stuck contacts or a cracked resistor or solder connection on the contact board.
I would guess the low G is contacting the cv. Inspect that key and be sure the contacts are not touching when the key isn’t depressed. The reason why the low G plays when all the higher keys are depressed is because they have a low-note priority on them and the sticking G is playing, triggered by the upper key’s gate contacts. That’s also why when you play the lower keys they do play, because it is lower note priority. Don’t mess with the tuning until you’ve fixed that problem unless you want to create another problem.. That might be a problem.
No one can say from a photo.
You need someone to check it with a meter.
Fwiw, I have a big box filled with those contacts.
Many with resistors already installed, some not.
But you should find out what the problem is before replacing any parts or adjusting trims.
You are looking in the wrong place. You need to look at the key contacts (J-wires?) on this synth. They are the little wires that contact the bars underneath the keys. Probably one of those wires (Under the G Key, the CV bar) is bent and continually touching the Bar. But you could definitely wreck your synth if you start messing with this without understanding how the keys work.
GREAT! thank you! found the two contacts under the G key. there was a small rock or piece of dirt or something lodged in there to where it was continuously making contact. removed the obstruction and voila!
