Hi, I own a Moog Rogue, and I’m definitely picking up a Minitaur after having played with one last week.
Can someone walk me through the cable scenario for having the Rogue control the Minitaur? I want to use the keyboard to control the oscillators on the Minitaur, so I have four oscillators total tracking the Rogue’s keyboard.
Would it be:
a.) Tip of the Rogue’s “KEYBOARD IN/OUT” 1/4’’ jack to the “PITCH CV” input of the Minitaur, via 1/4" TRS cable?
and
b.) Ring (V-gate) of the Rogue’s “TRIG IN/OUT” 1/4" jack to the “GATE” input jack of the Minitaur, via 1/4" TRS cable? Or is a gate connection not necessary?
Can someone recommend some standard/typical items to patch into the gate and filter CV inputs of the Minitaur? (Not an expression pedal via TRS cable, I have a couple of those.) In other words, what’s most commonly plugged in there by people who know what they’re doing?
Really? Twenty-one views and no responses? Nothin’? What’d I do?
Look, I’ve googled the living bejeezus out of this … Don’t give me the cold shoulder because you think I’m being lazy. I’ve looked! BELIEVE ME, I’ve looked!
I am not familiar with the Rogue, so I’ll try my best. You will need a V gate out from the Rogue to the Gate in of the Minitaur. In addition you need a KB out from the Rogue (I’m assuming that’s pitch) to the Pitch in of the Minitaur. TRS cables should not be a requirement, you should be fine with TS cables.
Some standard items plugged into the filter would be things like LFO’s, ribbon controllers, expression pedals, pretty much anything that puts out a voltage between 1 and 5V.
I have no experience with either instrument, but I wish you luck, as I think that would be an amazing sound. Post some recordings when you get it figured out?
I own a moog rogue and I’ve interfaced it in the past with a doepfer dark energy.
remeber to use stereo cable on the rogue side, than you’ll have to connect them as voltron suggested but you should know that, as pointed out in this thread http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9836 the keyboard of the rogue is “transposed”. Quoting Benjamin AM from that thread: “Out of box, the 0 volt key is low E, whereas it should be low F”. Which means that you’ll have to detune the minitaur in order to make them play the same note.
Hope my poor english has been understandable
If I had a Minitaur (not a snowballs chance in hell), I would probably just hook it up to a sequencer. Remember CV/Gates/Midi generated but a sequencer aren’t just pitch !
I don’t think that would be necessary. All you should need is a standard TS cable, unless the Rogue uses a TRS with voltage on the ring. At which point, you would want to make a cable connecting the ring of the TRS to the tip of the TS.
You need TRS cables on the Rogue as the sockets are shared function, V-trig/S-Trig, CV in/Out. Just use a TRS to 2xTS (like a stereo split cable), figure out which TS jack is ring and tip and use the appropriate jack.
I was using British English, something I often do as I’m English . A jack is something that sticks out and a socket is the hole it goes into. More correctly I should say jack plug and jack socket to avoid confusion, I was being a bit lazy in my usage, although it’s better than calling everything a jack as seems common in the US.
Wow, another issue: The Moog puts out +10V, the Minitaur takes +5V.
Will I now need some sort of passive voltage divider? Seems like it would be easy to do with a small enclosure, two 1/4 stereo jacks (or sockets, for the UK folk) and a 1M linear pot.
So: I could build a passive mixer box with 1/4" ins and outs, with a 1M pot between each in and out, hooked up like this:
1/4" in to pot terminal 1
1/4" out to pot terminal 2
ground to pot terminal 3
My thinking is, I’ll hook all that up, turn the knob til it measures 500K (half of 1meg, in other words) and mark that as the halfway point.
Will this work to knock a +10V signal out of the Rogue down to +5V for the Minitaur? Or am I a total idiot, and this won’t work at all, who the hell do I think I am, clearly I’m a crackpot, and I should go run out and buy a (product name here)?
Seriously, will this work? I AM TOTALLY GUESSING HERE.
