Hello! and greetings from Mexico!
Im the proud owner of a Moog Prodigy MkI!!!
this is my first post and i have a question regarding the pitch wheel in my prodigy…
I recently acquired it and noticed it doesnt act the way its supposed to, and i say this because ive seen demos from other users in youtube... This is the deal: When i move the pitch wheel in both synced and unsynced modes it sounds really glitchy...it does not make that sweeping phaser-like sound in sync mode... and in unsynced mode the pitch doesnt track the notes smoothly… ![]()
However…
When i force the pitch wheel sideways it sweeps more accurately but i dont want to keep on doing this because im afraid i could damage it and its difficult to find a trusty technician in my city..
my guess is that the pot might be dirty or in the worst scenario broken
what do you guys think? anyone experienced the same problem?
also i would like to know if its hard to find a replacement for this pot (in the worst case…hopefully not…)
Thank you in advance for your time!
Hiya- Have you checked the tightness of the small screw that the wheel is tightened onto the pot with? Open it up and you’ll see what I’m referring to…
Hi moogslob!!
Thank you for your kind reply!
i opened my Prodigy as you suggested and i noticed the screw you mentioned but its a button slotless screw…
is this normal? because the mod wheel its attached to the pot with a flat slothead screw.
Anyway, i moved the wheel and held the screw with some pliers and i didnt noticed it being loose.
i also checked and the 3 wires are properly connected to the pot.
do you know which tool could help me with this kind of screw?
it could be that im not holding it strongly enough to notice if its really tight.
what else do you think it could be?
if i needed to replace the pot is it hard to find?
Thank you! i really appreciate your help!
So opened up, when you move the pitch wheel, the pot post moves smoothly along with it? If that’s the case, then maybe it IS the pot- Of course if you replace the pot, you’re going to have to loosen the wheel off the post/re-tighten it to the new one- It seems odd it has a slotless screw, but maybe that’s a Prodigy thing(?)- I’m sure you can find a tool and a pot (if you need one) online- Anyone reading this that can help?
I had a Prodigy for a while, but never opened it up- The Rogue’s wheels BOTH had slotted screws- In the meanwhile, you can get the same effect of Osc 2 sync sweeps by turning Osc 2’s “interval” knob, and of course when not synced, you can just use the “tune” knob
and here’s the service manual, for the specs on that pot, etc.:

awesome sounding synth by the way- I wish I still had mine, even though I have a Voyager, the Prodigy’s tone is different
