Moog One ?

Could it be true ? Could Moog Music actually be working on a polyphonic Moog project ?
I doubt it very much, but part of me is still hopeful…

Filter
• Stave variable filter AND Moog Ladder Filter

Stave Variable Filter driven by a Thermal Nuclear Oscillator … Now this was probably a typo and writer meant State Variable Filter

Here is what a guy in the Moog Grandmother thread on Geaslutz says he was told by Moog it would be.

It’s polyphonic, and comes in 8- and 16-voice versions. (Moog has not only set us up as the earliest dealer with stock (around mid-August), but we’ll have an exclusive until they launch with other retailers in September. And they’ve also promised us a number of low-serial-number units (2-10) on each unit, though this does run an extra $500 (and also gets you a letter from Mike Adams, and a signed photo by the techs who built it). Sounds incredible, and check this out!

• 3 VCOs per voice
• 3 part multitimbral - 3 synths in 1
• Knob per function
• 4 LFOs per synth with easily assignable modulation
• Arp and sequencer (per synth)
• Clock sync
• Assignable CV ins and outs
• Lots of i/o for routing synths and effects
• Eventide reverbs built in
• Unrestricted number of presets

Oscillators
create complex waveforms

Noise
• Dedicated envelope for transient shaping

Filter
• Stave variable filter AND Moog Ladder Filter
• HP, LP, BP or notch
• link filters together for ganged sweeps
• assign sources to SVF ladder or both in the mixer

Envelope
• 3 envelopes (amp, filter, and assignable)
• easily assignable mod matrix

Sequencer and Arp

Effects
• True bypass effects
• effects per synth and a master effects bus
• 2 assignable macro controls - customizable per patch
• Vocoder
Modulation
• Easily repeatable mod mattrix routings
• 4 LFOs - 1 button destination routing
• Fine tune and ccreate complex modulation via transforms
• Easy assign performance controllers
• XY pad for expressive control

A partnership between Moog Music and Eventide for the effects section on this thing ? And available as soon as mid-august/early september ?
It might be more what someone was dreaming about last night than actual fact.

I’ve learned not to believe all the wishful thinking happening over the years about a new polyphonic Moog. :unamused:

Game Changer

Ok so Moog had Two NAMM’s, SW Gearfest, Moogfest, and the European shows to announce this and yet in all that Marketing wisdom they chose a sales rep from Sweetwater, priceless!!!

And to think i could have save 15% or more if I new him

This is my next Geico Sweetwater commercial

All I know is that if Moog does come out with a polymoog I am safe because I only play bass and dont need polyphony. Thank goodness because I dont have unlimited money but I have 5 Moogs already and dont think I will be able to pass on the grandmother either…

It might just be more than mere speculation, ladies and gentlemen:

(to see full picture, right click the image +open in new window)

These of course seem to be the front panel control boards, the actual analog circuitry boards aren’t showing, yet…

It may be a monophonic synth for all we know until official announcement. If it is poly… well, then that would be pretty awesome for Moog!

Then the question is do I wait until revision 2 to purchase or jump on the grenade now?

Ok, so why would Moog allow theses pics of boards out there on that site? Why share them on that site instead of in here among the faithful, i don’t get it. I do find the buttons interesting “ALL Synths” “Chords” “Mono” “Unison”
Moog Poly.PNG

Have you considered that it could have been leaked ?
BTW, those pics (assembled into one) date back to june of 2017 (probably soon after the start of the polyphonic synth project, if there was ever one).
So I can only assume that one year later, the project might be on the verge of being completed ? And the estimated mid-august, early september shipping date might be plausible ?

But then again, it might be a case of an exceptionnaly well done photoshop job ?
Of course, nobody from Moog Music will come here and confirm or deny anything, as usual…

The price also looked weird … 7,000 for 8 voice, and then only a couple thousand more for 16. Come on, why not 15,000.

I heard from a guy who knows a guy that MOOG is coming out with a poly synth, except it’s not called MOOG ONE it’s called The MOOG GRANDPAPPY.

Hey, don’t you give Moog Music any ideas !!

True

I blame the Russians

I doubt Moog will sell too many if the high prices mentioned are real. In a market where DSI is offer the equivalent (or better) for so much less cost, even the die hards might be a bit turned off.

I own a DSI REV2 16 voice polysynth. And, although on paper it does offer a lot, in reality the sound just isn’t on par with a possible 3 oscillators per voice Moog, with 16 of the the famous ladder filter.

The Behringer DeepMind 12 (which I also happen to have) sounds great too, when used with Unison-2 mode set to ON (effectively cutting the 12 voice polyphony in half but adding a second oscillator per voice), and its filters are smoother than the DSI ones of the Curtis chip. But it’s only a 12 db/oct one.

The DSI OB6 (another synth that I own), which is a bit expensive but still far from the projected price point of the 8 voices Moog One, but offers only 6 voices and at 2 oscillators per voice, is also a great machine with a superb sound. But it doesn’t have enough voices, and only 2 osc.

So you see, if indeed this project does exist and is on the verge of being a reality, I wouldn’t mind the price point of an equivalent, fragile, vintage Memorymoog offering only 6 voices and a lot less modulation routings…

The only real contender for now, that really exists but in very limited quantity, is The River from Baloran SAS from France which combines 8 Moog The Source clones into a box with modern digital control and modulation possibilities. But it’s only a 2 oscillators per voice with 8 voice for $5K (4200 €) and is not even available now because it’s assemble by hand by one man, and the first batch isn’t even all built yet.

(NOTE: all expressed opinions above are my own and don’t necessarily reflect everyone else’s who happen to own the same machines. TIFWIW)

IMO, if this is all true, Moog won’t have a problem selling them, they’ll have problem keeping up with the demand. Your honor, let the record state an average project manager in the US with a PPM and Master degree makes around $170,000 a year, plus quarterly bonuses, there are MILLIONS of PM’s in the US. Now lets say half of them are Synth enthusiast, Moogs gonna be VERY BUSY. Heeeeey, Hoooo, Molly, show me the Poly, Heeey Hooo

I think Moog will be blaming these Russians for the leak :smiling_imp:
