Moog on Alan Parsons Project records

Does anyone out there have a clue as to which synthesizers were used on Alan Parsons Project LP’s? I’ve always imagined there to be Mellatrons, classic tape loops, Synthi AKS, Yamaha DX7 and Roland Jupiter 8.

But, is there any evidence of a Moog of some kind? I sometimes imagine the strings that weren’t done by a real orchestra to have come from a Polymoog. I also would like to know if the sequenced part in the title track from I Robot was patched through a Minimoog.

Any assistance, people? Would be nice to find out, since I’ve been most heavily into their music for six years, now.

ebg31,

Check out my reponse under the moog moment topics.

Just in case, Alan Parsons talks about a # of things (mainly about his time during Pink Floyd’s DSOTM making) on the DVD about the making of that album.

Since Rick Wright used MiniMoogs on tour and on record i’m sure Alan had exposure and probably used one at some point during his recording career.

I’m a big Parson’s Project fan so i wish i knew more!

It was nice to hear him talk about his ideas on Floyd’s DVD. As a fan i suggest getting the DVD if you can!

Hi,

I don’t think Alan Parsons is very fond of Moog synthesizers. (Another artist who hardly likes them and I doubt if he owns one is Vangelis). I do know that Alan used extensively a Fairlight CMI+ and some Yamaha synths. He has been seen recently with a Yamaha Motif, and I think he said that he quite likes it.

Hi fellas,

I do intend on acquiring the Moog DVD in the near future. My main obstruction being the continued lack of a DVD player. It is within my intentions to get it, anyway.

Yeah, I knew about Alan with the Fairlight for a long time, now. One thing that I’ve always preceived about “mass-market” workstations like the Motif is that they’re like scaled-down versions of the Fairlight. Especially when you single out the ones with analog filters.

It’s no real shock to me that Alan would pick the Motif.
