Moog Model 15

Hi Moog fellas!

What’s the realistic value of a Model 15 in 2014?
I’m going to see one next monday…

Cheers

I’m going to take a wild guess and then hide under the table, but I’d say $10K minimum if in good condition.

To me, it’s the ultimate synth, just enough of everything and I can tell you that COTK is selling a ‘clone’ for more than $4K (USD) not including shipping, tariff (depending on where you live). And I think that is for a non-inductor based FFB (which I believe sells for $1000 additional).

I have not seen anything sell in that range. Very hard to value. Oddly enough, the modules OUTSIDE the box would be worth more. It’s like studio consoles (vintage) that are worth more “parted out” than together. The System 15 is indeed very powerful in a small package, but very expensive. If you could get it around $7000 that would be very fair…

I’ve seen several eBay/Craigslist listings over the last few years with 15s going between $10K-$35K. Don’t think any of them sold for those prices however, if the auctions were even for real in the first place.
IMO, I think if a 2600 goes for $10K plus, a great-condition 15 might be realistically priced in the mid-to high teens.
A WAG to be sure, tho…

Just always beware “asking” or ebay prices. The reality is always different (and often MUCH MUCH lower) if you’re trying to sell something, it seems. Or you can wait a year and sometimes get the price you’re hoping for. There is indeed good and solid value in old Moog systems, but everyone I know seems to think their system is worth some amount higher than the actual prices have indicated. I’ve seen two System 15s sell for under $10,000 in the last few years, a fair price.
