Moog MF-103 Phaser not powering up!

Hey guys, so i recently purchased a used Mooger phaser & been really happy with it. Currently waiting on my isolated power supply to arrive, so just been using a generic multi adaptor with no issues. Basically today it was on & working fine, I switched on the amp (amp and pedal power running on same bar socket) & it seems like it shorted out the pedal? That being the only thing that happened between it working fine and being totally dead, no lights, output or anything.

I took the back off and see theres a diode by the 9v in, could it be this has shorted out? quite probably wishful thinking i know but no amount of searching has really come up with anything in terms of similar issues.

Any tips on what would be the likely cause/things to check would be much appreciated, really love this phaser already and kicking myself for not being more careful (never had this happen to any other pedal before)

Thanks in advance!

I would never put an amp and a FX box on the same power strip. Always turn your amp on and off separately.

Do you have any way of checking to see if the generic power adaptor still works? Those things usually have a fuse inside the transformer, and once it goes - it’s gone. That’s better than your fooger blowing out. Hopefully that’s the case.

Sadly the adaptor seems fine! It’s the MF that suffered. I wouldn’t normally run off the same strip either to be honest, but at the same time never had this kind of problem happen before so didn’t think about it until too late! Lesson learned though, never again!

Also nudged me into finally investing in a regulated/isolated supply, looking at the decibel 11 Hot Stone, best I’ve come accross for clean power and some level of protection.

We live and learn!

I always run my amp and effects off the same power strip. Always have, and I’ve never had a pedal get blown up doing so. I’m not eve sure what that would do to break anything. As for the fooger, you probably only damaged the power supply input section. A decent tech should be able to fix it.

From the manual:

The MF-103 works satisfactorily on +10 to +15 volts DC and uses about 100 milliamperes of current. Note that most power adaptors that are rated at +9V DC will actually produce +10 to +11 volts, and power adaptors rated at +12V DC will actually produce +13 to +14 volts, when used with the MF-103. For this reason, you can power your MF-103 from virtually any power adaptor which has a nominal rating between +9 volts and +12 volts at a rated current of at least 200 milliamperes, and has the appropriate power connector.

Something weird must have happened, because it sound like the 103 is pretty forgiving with power adapters. Maybe there was a surge of some sort, or maybe the generic adaptor is putting out less than it says it is putting out.
