Moog Guitar Model E1 - $3295!

From what I can tell in Sweetwater’s blurb: alder body, chrome hardware, only three finishes.

Still no lefty version so what is there to talk about???

:stuck_out_tongue:

You could Jimi-flip it, but there’s a LOT of knobs and crap to get in the way.

ANYWAY…

Sweetwater has FINALLY gotten around to posting their Summer catalog on line! It’s in there. List $3595, their price $3295.97.

It seems it was at Summer Namm. It just didn’t get much press.

And this youtube clip was pulled.

Oops! That link was already posted. Sorry.

I’m really curious to see if the E1 version has the built in filter. I quite liked the idea of having a Moog filter right in the guitar. I could see it being left out as a cost cutting measure though.

I suppose you could buy a MF 101 lowpass to do the job with the money you’d save between the E1 and the collector edition.

Can anyone guess what the functional difference between the onboard filter and the MF 101 would be?

In any case, I think I may start scrimping and saving for an E1.

From what I understand from the third-parties, the E-1 cuts costs in the materials and finishes, not the electronics. Of course, someone from Moog is always welcome to cut in at anytime here.

as some who already owns a 101, I hope they didn’t cut out the filter from the e1. I would actually like to get a second 101 to use just as a tone shaper/bass booster and this way I would still have the fully functional first one for regular use…
My question is, will there be cv OUT for the e1. In one of the early videos for the vo signature, ceryl (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) said something along the lines of, there is a cv input but no cv out, yet

Finally, a little news. I just discovered that SweetWater’s website finally has the E1 available for pre-order. BUT you kinda have to hunt for it. It’s not (as of this second) listed with the other Moog “Solid Body Guitars”, nor is it in the “Electric Guitar Collector’s Corner”. Also if you do a search on their site for “Moog Guitar”, it’s not there, but it IS there if you type “Moog Guitar e1”. And it’s also on their Moog product page if you sort by “newest products”. (They also happen to have a Vo demo in scarlet for $5199.96) They only have black and red listed so far, and I BELIEVE they’re both “fixed bridge” despite the fact that it says “trem” in the description. “The Moog Guitar Model E1 will be available beginning on September 1…”

After I discovered that, I searched Google to see if there’s anything new within the past 24 hours for “moog guitar e1”, and a link to YouTube came up! MoogMusicInc has a new video of this thing!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDTQorCU_j8

At the end of the video, they flashed the url “moogguitar.com”. It just redirects back to the moogmusic.com guitar page, but they actually have the E1’s listed now! (They still ain’t on the main page yet.) There’s a fixed bridge model that lists for $3,495 (which is what SweetWater has as the “retail price”), and a “Tremolo [sic] Bridge” (I HATE it when people call it that) with a list price of $3,649.

Awesome! Way to stay on top of this.

I’ll take a black one with a fixed bridge.

I kinda like the butterscotch. I’m not normally a fan of butterscotch, but it looks really nice on this guitar. :open_mouth:

3V3+Z, you caught me in the midst of updating the website. It’s on the homepage now.

Chris

SweetWater has updated their prices. It’s now $3195.97 for the fixed bridges, $3395.97 for the vibrato tailpiece. (Big pet peeve. Sorry.)

+1 on being severly annoyed by the whole tremolo/vibrato confusion. Vibrato is pitch, tremolo is volume

Hear, hear!

Industry mis-jargon crap.

I think it is too costly, what extra it has for which it’s cost is so high. Generally guitars cost 500 $.

Generally guitars have several thousand fewer electronic parts.
A couple of pickups and a knob or two don’t cost so much… the original engineering of the Moog guitar, plus the electronics, plus the pickups which are made by hand here in Asheville NC, all add up to a lot of built-in cost.
And a lot of value for the money, if you value the the abilities that the Moog Guitar provides.

If all you need is a basic axe, there are plenty to be had. But to compare the Moog Guitar to a basic axe on price alone, is to miss the point somewhat…
