Moog E1-M... Should I get one?

Hello Moogers…

I was thinking of getting the E1-M while I have some spare $$!! I would like to hear thoughts from anyone who has played/owns it.. I like the idea of midi in a guitar (I have a YouRock guitar which is pretty dang cool) and with all the other features it offers, I could see myself having some fun with my Moogerfoogers!

My other options for a new toy include the Voyager or the DSI Tempest…

I have guitars, basses and a few synths already (no drum machine yet) but I’ve been lusting for the Moog guitar for a little while now. I don’t mind the look of the black one but others forum users are talking of possible future models based on classic 50’s and 60’s style guitars… Hmmmm…

Should I wait a year or two? Maybe get the Tempest or Voyager for now?

Please convince me to get the guitar! (since I’m more comfortable playing an axe anyways)

Ps: Hope I didn’t upset anyone for mentioning Dave Smith

My suggestion is, get one without the tremolo, if you get one at all. I would rather have the Voyager myself, but I’m a keyboard man. The tremolo is a bit buzzy in the Moog Guitar, from what I understand. And a few Moogers also have DSI or SC instruments. They complement Moogs nicely. Just remember…it may look like a guitar, and it may sound like a guitar, but step outside the box to get the most out of it.

I can’t say what you should do, but be advised - the guitar does not have MIDI out (like the YRG which is indeed a very cool tool for the price), it has the Roland-compliant 13-pin out, so you would need to buy more gear to use this feature. That being said, it’s fun. If you haven’t played one, I would advise trying a MIDI guitar out before plunging, the 13-pin stuff can be both exhilarating and frustrating which is a subject quite separate from the Moog guitar.

Not at all, it’s a free speech forum, products are discussed freely. You’ll find Moog lovers here, for the most part, but Moog lovers are not blind nor deaf, though some are a bit stubborn. Welcome to the forum by the way.

I have been asking myself the same question for a while, trying to justify the price. I got two Gibson Custom Shop that I paid less than the price of a standard Moog guitar without the options. Of course, it not the same thing. Maybe if they had an SG style…

Moog E1 is the best choice plus “it’s cheap and it’s really, really good!”

So I end up forking out the cashish for the E1-M! It’s an interesting beast to say the least! Never before have I plugged a guitar into 240v power!?! ITS ALIIIIVE!!! IT’S ALIIIIIVE!!!

The sound is like a blank canvas that you sort of need to colour a little. A little effects in the mix and it screams!!! Very very nice!

Already having issues though, only played it for the 3rd time now.. Had it a few weeks but been a little busy so haven’t played it much at all… I put up a new thread with my Piezo Blend FAIL problem all written down for all to see.. (and help/comment on)

Thanks again…
