Only if Steve Porcaro let him! (See photo in Mark Vail’s book ‘Vintage Synthesizers’, page 155).
Or if David Paich let him. ![]()
They both had large Polyfusion systems.
They probably did try it, I’d imagine.
I was once at a Motley Crue session where Tommy fed his drums through a Polyfusion’s phasor, etc.
Pretty wild.
Snares and cymbals have a lot of harmonics to work with.
A word of general advice. ‘Want’ is a powerful and often misunderstood human condition. It applies to many aspects of our lives and is a strong driving force. It’s in our DNA. And it’s associated with a certain amount of irony. We only want what we do not have. Once we have it, we no longer associate a sense of ‘want’ to it anymore. In many cases, we actually find ourselves NOT wanting something after we’ve acquired it. In extreme cases, we want something, then get it, then find we don’t want it, so we get rid of it, then later we find ourselves wanting it again!! Many people become a slave to ‘want’, and the credit card companies understand this all too well. Have you ever heard the saying, “It’s not the kill, it’s the thrill of the chase”? That applies to what I’m saying here. We’re way more thrilled by the anticipation and pursuit of ownership than we are by actual ownership. I could go on and on here, but I’ll refrain from writing a book. The bottom line is that it’s ok to want something, but don’t let ‘want’ take control of your life and make you do things which are not in your best interest. Charging $3200 on your Sweetwater card and paying 22.98% interest is definitely not a trap you want to fall into!
Lol good post. But its more like 3400 because its the select and the Vx351 too lolol.
I think its more like a need. Afterall, we need the Voyager in our MoogerFooger Systems…Right, Moogmusic?
lol
Eric
Oh yeah, I hear ya! By purchasing the Moogerfoogers, you’ve now created a real ‘need’ for the Voayager : ) By the way, were you actually able to get a $30 rebate for each Moogerfooger? I bought one unit during that promotion. I was going to buy 3, but something on the rebate form made me assume you could only get 1 rebate. Maybe they meant 1 rebate per unit. Meaning if you bought 5 Ring Modulators you could only get 1 $30 rebate.
Rebate:
I read on the online form “This rebate good for one unit per household”
I ordered 3 (Delay CP and Freq). I was going to take that 30 dollars and get a MF Rack Shelf for 30 instead of 50. I actually forgot about the rebate and Moog sent me an email saying that I was going to get my shelf and a 20.00 check. My rebate was 90 dollars.
I certianly didn’t argue.
If they gave me 3400, Id just give it right back to them lolol.
EricK
Man, you definitely made out on the rebates.
I was just listening again to Rise of the Monolith. That’s a great track. It would make a good sound bed for a Discovery Channel space documentary.
Nick,
Man that compliment made my day! I think the monolith is one that when I give the song a field run to some of my friends…a few minutes into it they skip ahead to see if it ever changes lolol.
I ran the Micro through a guitar processor and switched the setting and when I switched from the low to the WIDE selection on the octave switch it sounded like some bagpipes with delay.
THanks so much, Nick, I really appreciate you saying that!
Respectfully,
Eric
It doesnt seem that long ago you could get a Rogue, Micro, or even MG1 for under 500$, to wet your Moog whistle- These days though I think you’d be better off saving up the few extra bucks and getting a LP sooner, or Voyager later- For me, until my gigs start paying more than 100 a man plus beer, I can’t justify 3200, so Im Rogue/LPing it…
ive pretty much became a recluse because im so determined to make it…
If so, you might find this to be interesting reading…

i know im SO glad i got my micro when i did…i thinks its been about 2 years…but ive seen them go for like $1200 on the bay
thats like 3 times what i paid for mine!
I think all of the above ideas are great. Guys, you won’t be sorry. GET YOUR VOYAGER. Do whatever you must to get one.
Guys, I did what other moog enthusiasts would call criminal. I actually sold my model D for some of the money. And you know something? I still don’t regret it. That poor thing was a WONDERFUL synth. But need my moog on STAGE. My old model D was just too undependable for stage use. As a museum piece, fine. But I don’t have a museum. That and it’s been harder and harder to find techs that I could trust to maintain it for me (Not you, Kevin - strictly a shipping thing you know
). I needed the stability and the computer element of the Voyager for my work. Simple as that.
Anyway, apply that to any other ‘museum’ pieces you have lying around. If you have a dusty old synth or keyboard hanging around that you’re keeping that can bring in some significant bucks, consider letting it go. If YOU are not using it to it’s full potential, there’s someone that will pay you good money to have it ang give it a GOOD home. And not only keyboards. Anything else that you have hanging around the house that you believe is worth money (as in comic collections) and it’s something that you haven’t brought out and looked at for 2 years or so… well, perhaps it’s time to turn it into a VOYAGER which is something that will give you YEARS upon YEARS of joy and usefulness.
WHATEVER the cost… GET YOUR VOYAGER. You won’t be sorry.
