MOOG at NAMM 2005

I wonder what moog are going to release in the way of new products in january? this is my new year wishlist for new moog gear. if they make any of these in the near future i will be more than happy!

  1. voyager polyphonic expander module (adds 7 extra voices and features to the voyager(connects via cv/midi/accessory port) and turns the voyager into an 8 voice polysynth.
  2. a cut down version of the voyager (shorter keyboard, ribbon instead of touch controller 2 oscs)like a modern version of the source. bring it to the public around the 1000 dollar mark or less if poss.
  3. a new polysynth (if alesis could make the andromeda for a reasonable price surely moog can make a superior new polysynth at the same price point)
  4. a moogerfooger pedal containing a single vco that works via midi and can hold presets.
  5. a new version of the taurus pedals using the voyager engine.
  6. a version of the pianobar that will fit rhodes pianos (73 and 88 keys)
7.a moog equivalent of the korg kaoss pad but that uses an analog osciallator and moogerfooger effects.
  7. a rackmount unit that packages all the exisiting moogerfoogers with cv in outs on the back.

that’ll do for now! anyone know whats gonna be released?

I agree about the polyphonic expander. I wrote about my idea for how it could be done awhile ago in this forum. Using the later MMV OS features that “link up to 16 Voyagers” Then you could always run that through the ext. audio in.

My suggestion was to have it so you would buy only as many VCO/Voices as you would need. 4 more would do me fine!

I would also love to see a voyager voice expander in a rack format with no controls whatsoever to keep costs down (although a glowing moog logo like the powercore firewire would be nice ) . If you see all the electronics inside a voyager then sir_dss must be correct in saying that it would be one voice per module.

Plus, what I wrote here:

We can but dream.

p.s. re: the andromeda - this was a major engineering effort which I think is probably quite beyond the resources of Moog at this point. Given that it is cited as one of the reasons for Alesis’ downfall and acquisitoon by Numark, I’d be happier if Dr B and co just avoided polysynths. Other than the voyager voice expansion idea, of course.

how bout s reissue/redesigned, and available Analong Delay moogerfrooger?!?!

To DW: what’s Dr. Moog doing in that picture?

I’d like to add one unit to the wish list. Since the Minimoog Voyager has only a 44-note keyboard, stringing together 16 Voyager engines and playing them from that could produce a bit of a problem for playing parts over extended intervals. What would be really wicked is if (hopefully, not too far down the line) the Moog people could design a 61-note MIDI / CV keyboard with real-time controllers based on the Minimoog front panel ///////\ with the Voyager’s touch pad put right smack in the center, along with an M1-style calculator-typed patch selector.

Letting his fingers do the walking across the control panel of an Evolver Keyboard?

Note, the wheels are like the ones on the Voyager. Plus, 4 horizontal blue LEDs on the back of the Evo Keyboard.

Maybe because they are made by Fatar just like the keyboard action of the Voyager (and plenty other synths like Waldorf and Access) ?

Dave Smith was with Sequential?

Shape wise that Evolver looks like a Prophet-5.

Thats one synth I’m gonna look out for in the future!

I think the PolyEvolver Keyboard looks more like a Prophet~600 then a Prophet~5.

I think the P-600’s panel has less angle than the Prophet-5. And the P-600 doesn’t go as back as the Prophet-5 or the Evolver.

Dave Smith is Sequential

Not directly connected with the topic, but there’s something that bugs me. What was it about the P-600 that makes it so much cheaper than the P-5 on the used market? The P-5 has one less voice, no sequencer and (pending which Rev.) less patch memory storage. What did the folks at SCI do to make it cheaper Slimmer voice boards?

Man, I still haven’t seen a picture of the new Electric Blue V-ger!

A local guy got one done in Plexiglas and man, would that ever be something! It sure as hell would be electric blue, I’ll tell ya! Glowing from the inside with transparent case and wheels… whoo-haw!

-Hoax

why blue? can’t we have some color diversity?

Its lacking one or two things, and has the Pro-One’s cheap wooden side panels. And the P-5 is more desireable, being the first fully programable polyphonic!

I think the Polyevolver keyboard looks really cool and the spec seams to be really exiting. If the price isn’t too expensive I’ll probably buy one.
I have owned P600 years before I got my P5. When I got MIDI installed in the P5 I sold the P600. I think the physical size of the Evolver Keyboard and the wooden ends looks a lot like the P-600 and that’s not bad. I really like my P600, it had more warmth then e.g. the Juno106. The P600 is perfect if you want a bit of the Prophet sound, MIDI but can’t afford the real deal.

The Prophet 600 is a completely different beast.
Made much more cheaply, has all software envelopes, thinner filters, less panel controls, less modulation routings, a cheaper key action, etc.

This is a Moog forum though, remember?

I know the P600 can’t be compared sound vice to e.g. Prophet~5. I owned a P600 and sold it when I bought my P5. I just say that the physical appearance (size & wood work) is a bit like the P600.

I’m going to buy one of these PolyEvolver Keyboards during 2005.
By the way Kevin, thanks for selling a VCO-3 tuning pot for my Model D… works like a charm!!

I was wondering if the winner’s name was announced??
Wishful thinking on my part !
